Newlywed couple with a combined age of 202 years becomes the world’s youngest marriage pair

A couple getting married is usually young people, but in Philadelphia, USA, recently there is a centenarian couple who tied the knot. Their combined age reaches a staggering 202 years, breaking the Guinness World Records for the oldest newlyweds.

Marjorie Fiterman, 102 years old, and Bernie Littman, 100 years old, both entered a retirement home in Philadelphia after being widowed. Living on the same floor, they got acquainted and fell in love. After a love affair of 9 years, they finally got married on May 19 this year.

This newlywed couple, with a total age of 202 years and 271 days, set the Guinness World Record for the oldest newlyweds.

When Fiterman and Littman first met at a costume party on their floor, they hit it off immediately, and shortly afterward, their romantic relationship began. They had their first date on the same day Littman’s great-granddaughter was born.

Although they both graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, they studied different majors, and before they met each other, their lives never crossed paths.

Littman’s granddaughter Sarah Sicherman told the British Jewish Chronicle that the whole family is excited about the newlyweds, feeling lucky that they “found each other and support each other, especially during the pandemic.”

While Fiterman and Littman’s families thought the couple might not get married due to their advanced age, they were indeed surprised when they learned about their decision to marry.

Sicherman posted on social media, “In a world full of sadness and fear, being able to share something that brings joy to people is amazing.”

She wrote, “Today, my 100-year-old grandfather and his 102-year-old girlfriend got married! Both of them had marriages of over sixty years with their first spouses, and they have found true love again at the age of a hundred!”

With four generations of family members witnessing, Fiterman and Littman attended a traditional Jewish wedding. Rabbi Adam Wohlberg, who officiated the wedding, said in his address, “You both have accumulated a lifetime of wisdom and experience, your attitudes, feelings, and viewpoints are very clear now.”

Wohlberg said, “I can confidently say that your understanding and knowledge of each other are what define your future with your partners.”

He said, “Your decision to love each other – well, that’s not going to change.”

Fiterman and Littman strengthened their bond through dining together and participating in activities at the retirement home. Littman credits his longevity and happiness to reading and staying informed, while Fiterman attributes her longevity and happiness to consuming yogurt.

Sicherman told the Guinness World Records website, “They both love each other’s humor and intelligence. They keep each other young.”
