Tang Wei wins Popular Actress Award at the Asian Film Awards, seamlessly switching between three languages during the interview.

The 45th Blue Dragon Film Awards ceremony took place on November 29. Mainland Chinese actress Tang Wei, who has shifted her focus to the Korean entertainment industry in recent years, walked the red carpet hand in hand with her director husband, Kim Tae-yong. Tang Wei, who won the “Popular Actress Award” for their collaboration in the film “Wonderland,” delivered a speech in Korean, English, and Chinese during the red carpet interview, which received thunderous applause.

At 45 years old, Tang Wei has been married to Korean director Kim Tae-yong for 10 years, and they have a daughter together. Despite rumors of marital issues due to their busy schedules that sometimes keep them apart, Tang Wei has always brushed off the speculation. Last year, she collaborated with Kim Tae-yong on the film “Wonderland,” which earned them both nominations for Best Actress and Best Director at the Blue Dragon Awards. At the grand ceremony on the 29th, the couple sweetly displayed affection, waving and sending love to the audience, dispelling any previous rumors of trouble in paradise.

Tang Wei previously won the Blue Dragon Film Award for Best Actress in 2022 for the film “A Decision to Break Up,” becoming the first non-Korean to claim the title of Blue Dragon Queen. When interviewed on the red carpet this time, Tang Wei effortlessly switched between Korean, English, and Chinese, stating, “I am very happy to be back at the Blue Dragon Awards, especially with our ‘Wonderland’ team. I am delighted to see everyone here.” Her impressive multilingual abilities garnered enthusiastic applause from the audience.

When asked by the host which award he would choose if Tang Wei had to pick between Best Actress and Best Director, Kim Tae-yong shyly responded, “I dare not imagine winning Best Director. Of course, I hope to take home the Best Actress award, and it would be even better if we both win. But I think we’re both happy just to be nominated and attending this grand event.”

As the final awards were announced, Tang Wei, along with actors Jin Hai-yin, Im Ji-yeon, and Gu Jae-hwan, received the “Popular Actor Award.” When Tang Wei took the stage to speak, she chuckled, saying, “I was a bit dazed when I heard my name,” expressing surprise and anticipation about who the winner would be. She then expressed her gratitude to the director for crafting a role she loved, as well as to the crew and fellow actors. Of note, when Tang Wei thanked “Director Tae-yong” directly, the camera captured Kim Tae-yong in the audience, once again showcasing their sweet and affectionate relationship.
