New Wave of Trouble Looms as Public Anger Mounts in Beijing

Hello everyone, welcome to News Five.

Today’s focus: Shocking incidents of indiscriminate harm among citizens at home and abroad! Revealing the motive of indiscriminate harm; Opposition to the nation, Chinese Communist Party investigating individuals with nothing to lose; Many scholars’ articles deleted in a hurry; Xi Jinping’s wrong judgment on this matter! How to protect yourself in the chaos? Maintaining 5 minutes of kindness surprisingly brings great benefits!

In recent times, mainland China has witnessed numerous vicious incidents of indiscriminate attacks, with a frequency that has both domestic and international observers alarmed. What is happening in Chinese society? What common reasons might lie behind this indigenous form of terrorism? In what direction is Chinese society heading, and how should ordinary people navigate it?

Q1: Qin Yue, could you please summarize several major recent incidents of vicious harm in China?

Answer: Let’s go through them in chronological order. On November 19th, there was an incident of pedestrians being hit at the entrance of a primary school in Changde, Hunan. Multiple students were hit, but the specific casualties are unknown; On November 17th, there was a case of a man being stabbed at Guangdong University of Technology, resulting in 8 deaths and 17 injuries; On November 16th, there was a stabbing incident at a university in Yixing, Jiangsu, where it was rumored that 4 attackers, who did not receive their graduation certificates, killed a housekeeping staff member in a dormitory, obtained a room card, entered the dormitory building, knocked on the door of a room, and stabbed all the students inside, with another person being killed the next day.

On November 11th, there was a case of pedestrians being hit in Zhuhai, Guangdong, resulting in 35 deaths and 43 injuries. The 62-year-old male suspect Fan was immediately controlled by the police, and after being arrested, he self-harmed with a knife.

These horrifying incidents involve an unknown amount of bloodshed. The most frightening aspect is the indiscriminate killings – you have no grudges, just walking peacefully until you are hit by a car, or children going to school, expressing helplessness at the supposedly safe school gate. What kind of society is this? It is believed that the motives of these individuals strongly revolve around retaliating against society, as they choose locations that shock the public, making it newsworthy even if not originally intended.

Q2: Tang Qing, Qin Peng, Lai Rongwei, Executive Director of the Taiwan Inspirational Association (TIA), stated that China is forming a “local terrorism” characterized by not belonging to any international terrorist organization. The incidents may be driven by unemployment, wage deductions, social exclusion, etc., causing resentment leading to societal retaliation. Why is this so-called Chinese characteristic terrorism increasingly frequent now? Are there any common factors behind these cases?

Q3: Fu Yao, after a series of vicious incidents, several scholars on the mainland wrote articles calling for reflection, proposing stress reduction and guidance to ease public grievances, but their articles were deleted by the authorities. What are the authorities afraid of? If adopting the scholars’ suggestions could help alleviate public resentment, why delete the posts?

Q4: What kind of impact will these high-frequency vicious incidents have on this society and country?

Q5: Qin Yue, Fu Yao. There is a saying, “The darkest hour is just before the dawn.” For the Chinese people in these turbulent times, how can they protect their safety, maintain good intentions, and hold onto hope?

Qin Yue’s response: Looking at how the rulers in North Korea govern, causing the people to be self-absorbed in basic survival and unable to interact with the outside world and information flow.

Therefore, the Chinese people need to break through the information blockade, climb the wall as much as possible to access comprehensive information about how to live in the present. Which country’s immigration policy suits them, whether to emigrate? The economic situation in the region should not only be obtained from factual media information, but also pay attention to many details in life, because in such a large country like China, the impact of economic downturn may not have spread to all cities. How many shops are still operating on the main streets of your city, observe the business and foot traffic? How much time do you have to manage your household finances, or learn new skills to start afresh in a different place?

In daily interactions with people, try to give in as much as possible, because due to economic downturns and hardships in life, you never know how much pent-up anger the other person might have waiting to erupt.

Regarding how to maintain good intentions and hope, it is known that those who lose good intentions and hope were not always like that from the beginning. Perhaps facing seemingly unbearable injustices, my little method of coping when understanding fails me every time is to put the people and incidents causing confusion, including my own actions and words, into society. If these people and events were unrelated to you, how would you evaluate them from an unbiased standpoint? You might then realize you’re not as wronged as you thought, because you might have harmed others more.

There is a passage in “Xiao Chuang You Ji” compiled by Chen Jiru from the Ming Dynasty that states: when good intentions arise, good things will follow, protected by positive spirits, and all will be well; if evil thoughts arise, malevolent spirits will follow, bringing disasters and troubles. In fact, the moment a thought arises, although you may not have taken any immediate action, you have already made a choice.

In the face of harm from entities like the CCP, during the darkest times, quietly waiting and gaining strength is crucial. A well-known director, when asked by the lead actress of his new film for any request, said: “Just one request, meditate quietly for 15 minutes before sleep every day,” because the director believed that true power comes from tranquility. Let us wait and see.

While preparing for this segment, I thought of a metaphor: if China is a body, then the CCP is a malignant tumor growing on it, and the various disasters, misdeeds, and moral decay in Chinese society are symptoms of this body. As long as the tumor is not removed, the symptoms will not disappear. And because of the presence of the tumor, this body has lost the ability to detoxify and renew itself. This is why it is essential to eradicate the tumor for the country to regain health and rejuvenation.
