Recently, Beijing University Library has been exposed for withholding employee salaries, with some staff members going nearly three months without pay. Additionally, reports have surfaced of workplace bullying and brainwashing within the organization.
According to a netizen who disclosed the information, they work at the Beijing University Library. They reportedly work an average of over 12 hours a day, with some days extending to a maximum of 17 hours without breaks for the entire year, not even having time for bathroom breaks or showers, and being required to work unpaid overtime daily. Salaries have been continuously delayed, dragging from the beginning to the end of the month, leaving staff members unpaid for three months. Even employees who have resigned four months ago have allegedly not received their salaries. “I have inquired about the salary issue with the leadership multiple times, and the response I received was ‘the employer hasn’t paid,’ I want to know who exactly is the employer here?”
The whistleblower also mentioned that leadership at the Beijing University Library is engaged in various forms of workplace bullying and brainwashing, such as telling employees, “You are here to work for us, you shouldn’t have any holidays, that person is sick, etc.”
The revelation of salary delays at the Beijing University Library has shocked many, considering the university’s annual revenue exceeds billions of yuan, making such a situation seem inconceivable.
On November 2, the aforementioned netizen posted an update on the situation, stating “all salaries were paid on November 1. However, there were no overtime payments, and the system remains unchanged without any holidays.” Currently, all the content shared by this netizen regarding the situation has been deleted.
A report by Dahebao·Yu Video’s “Seeing” segment reached out to Beijing University Library, and their staff denied the claims of delayed salaries circulating online. Furthermore, the staff member stated that in response to the netizen’s disclosures about the salary issue, relevant teachers are preparing to send legal letters, with details to be officially announced.
It is worth noting that according to the recruitment information from the Beijing University Library, the administrators hired are not part of the university’s official staff but are external employees.
Through a search on a recruitment website, it was found that in October 2024, Beijing Shouhua Property Management Co., Ltd. won the bid for security and cleaning services at Beijing University Library.
Dahebao·Yu Video’s “Seeing” reporters contacted Beijing Shouhua Property Management Co., Ltd. via their public phone number to inquire about their services for the library, and the response received was “uncertain.”
In response to this situation, Lawyer Yao Kun from Beijing Kanda (Zhengzhou) Law Firm stated that the public has the right to fight against issues like overtime work, unpaid overtime, and salary delays. According to him, the payment period for labor remuneration should follow the labor contract terms, usually paid on a monthly basis. In this case, the identity of the employer needs to be verified, and if the services are outsourced to a third party or labor dispatch, then the responsibility for salary payments falls on that third party or labor dispatch unit.
