The White House announced on Saturday (November 9) that President-elect Donald Trump (Trump) has accepted President Biden’s invitation and is scheduled to meet in the Oval Office at 11 a.m. next Wednesday (November 13).
White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre made the above statement on the White House website on Saturday, stating that more details about the meeting between the two will be announced later.
Trump won the US presidential election on November 5, defeating incumbent Vice President Harris to become the 47th president of the United States. Biden called Trump on November 6 to congratulate him on his election victory and invited him to the White House to discuss the transition.
On November 7, President Biden made a speech in the White House Rose Garden about this election. He pledged to have a “peaceful and orderly” transition with Trump. He also stated that he accepts the choice of the American people in this election.
“For more than two hundred years, America has carried out the greatest experiment in self-government in world history,” Biden said. “This is not an exaggeration. It is a fact. The people vote for their leaders and do so peacefully. In a democratic country, the will of the people always prevails.”
Trump will be inaugurated as President of the United States on January 20, 2025. Most presidents-elect also receive intelligence briefings every day or nearly every day during the transition period. One of his immediate tasks is to fill about 4,000 positions in the new government, which will be filled with individuals selected by the Trump team, including cabinet members and key positions in the Department of Justice.
So far, Trump has appointed Susie Wiles as White House Chief of Staff. Wiles has been leading Trump’s campaign for the past two years and is considered instrumental in Trump’s successful campaign.
Trump’s allies in Congress are already discussing confirming candidates to enter the new cabinet as soon as possible.
