In a miraculous incident in Kansas, United States, an elderly woman had a near-death experience lasting for 11 minutes after being pronounced dead by doctors. During this time, she journeyed through heaven and hell, and even had a vision of God. God gave her a message to bring back to the earthly realm before allowing her to return to life.
The story of this woman, named Charlotte Holmes, from Wichita, Kansas, was shared on the Christian Broadcasting Network’s television program “The 700 Club.” She underwent this near-death experience in September 2019 when she was 68 years old and already a grandmother.
During a routine heart check-up at the hospital, her blood pressure suddenly spiked. Doctors informed her that she was either having a heart attack or a stroke, leading to her experiencing the near-death encounter.
While in the hospital, she told her husband that she saw beautiful flowers. But upon looking around, she realized there were no flowers in the room, making her aware that she was in a different space altogether.
Her heart had stopped beating for 11 minutes, and she was declared dead by the doctors. Initially, she saw herself floating above her own body, observed her husband standing in a corner, and medical personnel busy trying to revive her.
She then witnessed the beauty of heaven with flowers, trees, and soothing music. She felt only joy and no fear, an experience that surpassed her imagination.
She recounted, “I saw my mom. I saw my dad. I saw my sister. I saw family standing behind. I saw ancient saints. They didn’t look old. They didn’t look sick. They didn’t have glasses.”
She described them as appearing in their thirties, looking beautiful. She also saw a bright light behind her mother, realizing it was God. Next to God was a boy, whom God revealed to be her son.
Having suffered a miscarriage at five and a half months pregnant before, she was astonished to see the boy and asked God, “How is this possible?” God replied, “They keep growing in heaven.”
After this heartwarming reunion, God showed her the “edge of hell.” She described smelling the stench of decaying flesh and screamed in horror, finding the contrast between the beauty of heaven and the unbearable reality of hell.
God told her, “I showed you this to tell you that if some people don’t change their ways, this is where they are headed.”
God then instructed her to come back and share all she had seen. Suddenly, she felt herself back in her body in the hospital room.
Holmes was discharged from the hospital two weeks later and made a full recovery. She made it her mission to share her near-death experience with others while conveying the message entrusted to her by God.
She emphasized, “Heaven is richer than you can imagine. I’m grateful that I can look you in the eye and tell you definitively that heaven is real.”
Holmes passed away in November 2023 at the age of 72, leaving behind her husband, their daughter, two grandsons, a granddaughter, and a great-grandchild.
