The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) announced that the Speaker of the Congress of the Republic of Guatemala, Mr. Ramos, led a delegation to visit Taiwan on July 15th. President Lai Ching-te will personally meet with the delegation to exchange views on common issues of concern between the two countries.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China released a press release stating, “Speaker Ramos from the Republic of Guatemala, in response to our government’s invitation, led a delegation to visit Taiwan from July 15th to 19th. The delegation members include the Vice President of the Guatemalan Congress, Mr. Amézquita, Secretary General Ms. Paz, the leader of the ruling Seed movement party, Mr. Sanabria, and bipartisan members of the parliament, as well as the Director of the Congressional Protocol Office, Mr. Alburez. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs warmly welcomes them.”
This visit marks the first official trip for Speaker Ramos since taking office in January. The three accompanying parliamentarians belong to different political parties. “This joint visit to Taiwan highlights the unwavering support of the Guatemalan Congress, regardless of the party affiliation, towards our country. To demonstrate the importance Taiwan places on Speaker Ramos’ delegation, President Lai Ching-te will personally meet with them and discuss common concerns between the two countries.”
During his stay in Taiwan, Speaker Ramos will also attend a banquet hosted by Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph Wu, as well as visit the Legislative Yuan, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the National Immigration Agency under the Ministry of the Interior, and the International Cooperation and Development Fund. He will also tour the Taipei Police Department Command Center, Taipei 101 skyscraper, experience the Taipei Metro, and visit the Southern Taiwan Science Park in Tainan to explore economic and cultural facilities.
The Republic of China and the Republic of Guatemala have a strong and friendly relationship, with the Guatemalan government and parliament actively supporting Taiwan’s international participation. In May of this year, Speaker Ramos, on behalf of the Guatemalan Parliament, signed a resolution supporting the participation of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in the World Health Assembly (WHA). The long-standing cooperation between Taiwan and Guatemala in the fields of public health, infrastructure, higher education, and agricultural technology has been highly effective, earning recognition and gratitude from both the Guatemalan government and the people.
