On Saturday, the first round of peace talks between the US and Iran took place in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan. The health condition of Iran’s new leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has been a topic of concern. According to sources, Mojtaba was injured early in the US-Israel war against Iran, suffering severe injuries to his face and legs, and is currently undergoing treatment.
Reuters reported that three sources close to Ayatollah Khamenei’s inner circle revealed that Mojtaba was severely injured in the attack on the Supreme Leader’s residence in Tehran by the US and Israel, resulting in severe facial disfigurement and injuries to one or both legs.
Two of the sources stated that Mojtaba is participating in high-level meetings in Iran through video conferencing, discussing major decisions on issues such as the war with the US and Israel, as well as negotiations with Washington.
Although these sources provided descriptions of Mojtaba’s physical condition, Reuters was unable to independently verify these claims.
Mojtaba’s whereabouts, health condition, and governing ability remain a mystery to the public. Since assuming the position of Supreme Leader after his father Ali Khamenei on March 8th, Mojtaba has not released any photos, recordings, or videos publicly.
The Iranian mission to the United Nations did not respond to Reuters’ inquiries about the severity of Mojtaba’s injuries and why he has not appeared in public.
On February 28th, Iran’s dictatorship leader Ali Khamenei and several high-ranking officials were killed in a decapitation operation by the US-Israel coalition. It is believed that Mojtaba was seriously injured in this bombing.
Iranian officials have not made a public statement regarding the extent of Mojtaba’s injuries. However, following Mojtaba’s succession as Supreme Leader, a news anchor on Iranian state television described him as a “janbaz,” a term often used to refer to individuals seriously injured in war.
US Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, stated in a declaration on March 13th that Mojtaba was “injured and possibly disfigured” in the US-Israeli airstrikes.
According to recent reports from The Times of London, US and Israeli intelligence indicate that Mojtaba is currently unconscious and unable to participate in governing decisions, receiving critical care treatment in the holy city of Qom, Iran.
Qom is a religious hub for the Shia Islam located about 140 kilometers south of Tehran.
US and Israeli intelligence also suggest that preparations are being made to transport Ayatollah Khamenei’s body to Qom for burial, with plans for a large mausoleum with multiple crypts, hinting at the possibility of Khamenei being buried alongside his family, including his successor Mojtaba.
