A 20-year-old mainland Chinese TikTok influencer, Umi (real name Wu Zhenzhen), was discovered stranded on the streets of Cambodia with broken legs back in December. Recently, she shared her experiences in Cambodia but was unexpectedly silenced at a crucial moment, with even her TikTok accounts being frozen.
Wu Zhenzhen, originally from Fujian, had gained around 41,000 followers on TikTok for her spicy girly-style makeup videos. It was reported last December that she was found wandering the streets of Cambodia. Photos showed her with disheveled hair, a dirty face, and legs covered in bruises, indicating possible fractures. After the photos surfaced, local rescue teams intervened, took her to the hospital, and arranged for her return to China.
Upon returning, Wu Zhenzhen gradually resumed her social media updates and live-streamed product promotions in January. However, when asked by fans about her experiences in Cambodia, she repeatedly postponed giving details, only expressing regret without delving into specifics.
It wasn’t until the evening of April 2nd that she finally revealed her story in Cambodia during a live broadcast, recounting her journey abroad. She said she was deceived into going overseas by an acquaintance promising a high-paying job, only to have her passport confiscated upon arriving in Cambodia, restricting her movements. During her stay, she was even coerced into contacting the acquaintance’s ex-boyfriend and engaging in what she called “keyboard work.” “I was deceived by that woman, and she has not been caught yet,” she shared.
However, due to the sensitive nature of the content, Wu Zhenzhen did not disclose many details.
Her live broadcast attracted tens of thousands of viewers, who were initially eager for her to reveal more behind-the-scenes information. But after about 30 minutes, the broadcast was abruptly cut off with a message on the screen stating, “Room closed.” The following day, her two TikTok accounts were also frozen and have not been reinstated since. This incident has raised concerns among the public regarding cross-border fraud and the safety of influencers.
