On the evening of April 5th, a sudden explosion and fire broke out in a factory near Liu Jiazhuang Village in Niuquan Town, Laiwu District, Jinan, Shandong Province. The flames soared into the sky, and thick smoke billowed. In a video captured by witnesses, a huge fireball rose into the air, with black smoke surging upwards.
According to Jizhou News, at around 8:40 pm on the 5th, a resident of Laiwu District mentioned that in the evening, after hearing an explosion near Niuquan Town in Laiwu District, he witnessed a fire at the scene. “After the explosion, flames and thick smoke rose up.” Following this, he rushed to the scene. About 1 kilometer away from the site, the road was blocked. Someone informed him that the glass windows and doors of their house had been shattered.
Officials from Niuquan Town Government stated that according to initial investigations, the explosion and fire occurred in a local factory, and the visible flames at the scene have been extinguished.
In an article by a notable NetEase author, it was noted that the explosion at the factory led to the shattering of glass windows and doors in residential homes. At the moment of the explosion, residents might have been preparing dinner at home, watching television, or assisting their children with their homework. With a loud noise suddenly resounding, the windows shattered, leaving residents uncertain about what had happened and their safety – a sense of fear more distressing than the explosion itself.
The article raised questions: if the explosion caused windows to shatter, what about the structural integrity of the walls? Were the load-bearing structures affected? In the event of a similar incident occurring in the future, is there an early warning system in place, and where are the evacuation routes? In this area near the Si Ma River in Niuquan Town, there have been previous incidents such as tank truck fires and factory fires. When combined, these news reports have heightened concerns among local residents regarding the industrial safety situation in the area.
“People living in that area not only want to know if their residential area is safe, but also whether there is proper supervision of industrial safety production and who would bear responsibility in case of accidents. The fact that a factory can explode indicates loopholes in the production process.”
