Severe Rainstorm Hits Southern China During Qingming Festival, Multiple Railways Suspended

During the Qingming Festival holiday, Southern China is facing a new round of severe convective weather, with Guangdong, Hunan, and other regions experiencing continuous heavy rain for several days. Multiple railway lines in Guangdong have been suspended or delayed, affecting travels in the area.

According to reports from China Weather Network and local meteorological departments, the current severe convective weather has intensified since early April, affecting Guizhou, Hunan, Jiangxi, Guangxi, Guangdong, Fujian, and other regions, showing a wide range and high intensity of rainfall. On April 3, areas like Qingyuan, Shaoguan, Heyuan, and Yunfu in Guangdong experienced intense rainfall, with some areas reaching heavy rain levels.

The meteorological department of Guangdong Province predicts that heavy rainfall will continue during the Qingming Festival holiday, accompanied by thunderstorms, strong winds, short-term heavy precipitation, and localized hail. On April 3, there were significant rainfall in the central and northern regions, accompanied by severe thunderstorms with wind speeds of 8 to 10 levels in some areas. On April 4, the center of the strong convection is expected to shift to the southern part of the Pearl River Delta, including cities like Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Zhuhai, facing another round of rain impact. Meanwhile, the precipitation in the central and northern regions will temporarily weaken due to the influence of cold air.

From April 5th to 6th, as the upper-level trough moves eastward and the southwest low vortex develops, Guangdong will once again experience a widespread rainfall process from west to east, with the possibility of heavy rain in some areas, overlapping with strong convective weather. By April 7, the rain band is expected to gradually move eastward, signaling the end of this round of heavy rainfall.

Hunan is also facing heavy rainfall. The Hunan Provincial Meteorological Observatory reported that from the night of the 2nd to the day of the 3rd, central and southern parts of the province experienced widespread heavy to torrential rain, reaching heavy rain levels in some areas, accompanied by thunderstorms, strong winds, short-term heavy precipitation, and even hail in some areas.

Due to the adverse weather conditions, several railway lines, including the Shanghai-Kunming Line, Jiaozuo-Liuzhou Line, and Chongqing-Huaihua Line, have been temporarily suspended. Some trains are also experiencing varying degrees of delays.

During the Qingming Festival holiday, the public is advised to closely monitor the latest weather and train operation information, adjust travel plans accordingly, and take necessary safety precautions against rain and wind.
