Recently, a newlywed couple in their hometown of Henan province held an extremely simple wedding without any elaborate ceremonies. The whole event cost less than 7000 yuan, with no luxury car fleet, no professional emcee, and even the decoration for the wedding car only cost 2 yuan, sparking discussions online.
According to reports from Cover News, Mr. Yuan and Ms. Zhou from Chenhua District in Chengdu have been in love for five or six years. On March 15th this year, they held a minimalist wedding in their hometown of Mianchi County, Shanxi Province.
Mr. Yuan explained that the wedding had no pomp and circumstance, with the main expenses being the 14 tables for the banquet. The food cost 6050 yuan, plus around 700 yuan for cigarettes and alcohol, totaling 6750 yuan. They didn’t even rent an expensive wedding gown, didn’t have custom-made outfits, and the bride only spent 200 yuan on makeup. They used their own private car as the wedding car, along with other miscellaneous expenses, the total came to exactly 6,999 yuan, just 1 yuan short of 7000 yuan.
On the day of the wedding, the banquet started at 11 am, and as soon as the guests arrived, they began the meal without any formalities. The couple went on stage to say a few words of gratitude and then joined their family and friends for a meal and chat.
Mr. Yuan said that originally, they had budgeted nearly 50,000 yuan for the wedding, but ended up saving over 40,000 yuan. Besides spending less money, the wedding process was also very simple. They skipped traditions like gatecrashing, emcee performances, stage setup, and professional videography.
During the wedding, Mr. Yuan took out his own sports camera and asked relatives and friends to take a few shots spontaneously, believing it was enough to capture the moment.
Mr. Yuan mentioned that young people are already under a lot of pressure, having just bought a house in Chengdu and with his wife being pregnant, there are expenses everywhere. He said, “All this money is intended to be used for the construction of our little home, purchasing appliances, preparing baby supplies, which is far more meaningful than spending it on unnecessary extravagance.”
Mr. Yuan’s minimalist wedding sparked discussions online, with netizens expressing support, saying, “Support! Cutting out the unnecessary expenses can be used to buy hardware for the bride or to provide extra funds for a new family, which is also good.” Some also commented, “Live soberly.” “As long as the two are happy, there’s no need to focus too much on the ceremony. Many times, to show off to others, extravagant weddings end up with a pile of debts. A simple wedding like this, however, is more memorable.” “The key is to have a mother-in-law who is understanding.”
Some netizens also pointed out, “It’s still because of a lack of money, who doesn’t like the sense of ceremony if they have the means.” “Ours was under 5000 yuan.” “We just got the marriage license, nothing else.” “Rational consumption, according to one’s financial ability is the way to go.”
