After the Two Sessions of the Chinese Communist Party in the past two weeks, six senior officials in Jiangsu Province have fallen from power one after another, including Wang Qi, former Secretary-General of the Jiangsu Provincial Government, and Xu Kejian, former Secretary-General of the Taizhou Municipal Party Committee.
Wang Qi has served as the steward for the former governors of Jiangsu Province, Shi Taifeng and Wu Zhenglong. Shi Taifeng is currently a member of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party and Minister of the Organization Department. Wu Zhenglong is currently a State Councilor and Secretary-General of the State Council. Zhu Lifan is currently the Vice Chairman of the Xinjiang Autonomous Region Government.
On March 26, 2026, the official website of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission of the Chinese Communist Party reported that Pan Daojin, former Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the Yancheng City Political Consultative Conference in Jiangsu Province, is under investigation for serious violations of discipline and laws.
Public information shows that Pan Daojin, born in November 1962 in Jianhu County, Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province, has served in various positions in Yancheng City, including County Governor and County Party Secretary of Xiangshui County, as well as member of the Standing Committee and Secretary-General of the Yancheng Municipal Party Committee.
According to the official website of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, from March 13 to March 26, 2026, within two weeks after the end of the Two Sessions of the Chinese Communist Party, six senior officials in Jiangsu Province, including Pan Daojin, have been investigated. The other five officials are: Wang Qi, former director of the Population, Resources, and Environment Committee of the Jiangsu Provincial Political Consultative Conference (March 19, 2026), Fan Shoubai, former Vice Chairman of the Changzhou Municipal Political Consultative Conference (March 18, 2026), Yu Lizhong, Deputy Mayor of Nantong City (March 16, 2026), Xu Kejian, member of the Taizhou Municipal Party Committee and Minister of the United Front Work Department (March 14, 2026), and Xu Wen, member of the Zhenjiang Municipal Party Committee and Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee (March 13, 2026).
Wang Qi, former director of the Population, Resources, and Environment Committee of the Jiangsu Provincial Political Consultative Conference, was investigated on March 19, 2026.
His public resume shows that Wang Qi, born in May 1962 in Zigong, Sichuan Province, worked in the Central Organization Department of the Chinese Communist Party from 1988 to 2000. In October 2000, he was transferred to the Jiangsu Provincial Organization Department, and in January 2002, he was promoted to Deputy Minister of the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee Organization Department. In July 2005, he became a member of the Standing Committee and Minister of Organization of the Nanjing Municipal Party Committee, and in February 2011, he became the Executive Deputy Minister of the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee Organization Department.
During Shi Taifeng’s tenure as Governor of Jiangsu Province from November 2015 to April 2017, Wang Qi served as Secretary-General of the Jiangsu Provincial Government and a member of the Party Committee since May 2016, acting as Shi Taifeng’s steward.
After Shi Taifeng was transferred to the Party Secretary of Ningxia, Wu Zhenglong took over as the Governor of Jiangsu Province in May 2017. Wang Qi continued to serve as Secretary-General of the Jiangsu Provincial Government and a member of the Party Committee until he was transferred to be the Secretary of the Population, Resources, and Environment Committee of the Jiangsu Provincial Political Consultative Conference in January 2018.
Shi Taifeng is currently a member of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party and Minister of the Organization Department. Wu Zhenglong currently serves as a State Councilor and Secretary-General of the State Council.
Xu Kejian, member of the Taizhou Municipal Party Committee and Minister of the United Front Work Department, was investigated on March 14, 2026.
Public information shows that Xu Kejian, born in June 1967 in Taizhou, Jiangsu Province, served as Secretary of the Hai Ling District Committee in Taizhou. In August 2017, he became the Deputy Mayor of Taizhou and served as the deputy to two consecutive mayors of Taizhou, Shi Lijun (January 2016 to October 2019) and Zhu Lifan (November 2019 to August 2021).
After Zhu Lifan was appointed as Secretary of the Taizhou City Party Committee in July 2021, Xu Kejian was promoted to become a member of the Taizhou City Party Committee and Secretary-General in September 2021, serving as Zhu Lifan’s steward for two years and four months.
Zhu Lifan, born in December 1971 in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province, has served in various positions including Deputy Mayor of Changshu City, Director of the Suzhou Municipal Bureau of Commerce, Mayor of Zhangjiagang City, and Deputy Secretary of the Taizhou Municipal Party Committee.
In January 2024, Zhu Lifan was transferred as Vice Chairman of the Xinjiang Autonomous Region Government from being the Secretary of the Taizhou City Party Committee. A year later, in January 2025, Xu Kejian was transferred to become a member of the Taizhou City Party Committee and Minister of the United Front Work Department until his fall from power on March 14, 2026.
Chen Weijun, member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of the Xinjiang Autonomous Region and Executive Vice Chairman of the Autonomous Region Government, was investigated while in office on November 30, 2025. Zhu Lifan and Chen Weijun worked together in the Xinjiang Autonomous Region Government for nearly two years.
