Fujian police officer lightly sentenced for sexually assaulting 15-year-old girl in police station sparks doubts

【Epoch Times March 25, 2026】In the town of Yacheng, Xiapu County, Ningde City, Fujian Province, a police instructor named Li Fengling was sentenced to two years and nine months in prison for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl in his office. The case sparked public outrage after it was exposed, with many questioning the leniency of the sentence.

On the afternoon of June 16 last year, a 15-year-old girl, Xiaojun (pseudonym), from Yacheng Town was brought to the police instructor’s office at the Yacheng Town Police Station along with her mother due to an altercation where she had struck someone. While in the office, the police instructor, Li Fengling, asked the girl’s mother to leave the room and then sexually assaulted the girl who was left alone in the office.

The Xiapu County Court determined that Li Fengling’s crime involved a minor, which could warrant a heavier punishment, and that he abused his position to commit the crime, which also warranted a heavier punishment. Considering the heinous nature of the indecent acts, as well as Li’s admission of guilt and willingness to accept punishment, he was sentenced to two years and nine months in prison for the charge of forcible indecency.

However, Xiaojun’s father, Mr. Zhang, believed that the court’s sentencing of Li Fengling was too lenient. On March 20, he filed an appeal with the Xiapu County Prosecutor’s Office and also initiated a civil lawsuit against Li Fengling seeking compensation.

Mr. Zhang recalled that both his daughter and the victim were summoned to the police station for questioning, after which they went home separately. Later on, the police instructor, Li Fengling, called and asked his wife to bring their daughter back to the station. Upon their return, Li Fengling made the excuse of wanting to speak with Xiaojun alone and then used the threat of “detainment” to coerce and intimidate her into indecent acts inside the police station office.

After Xiaojun returned home and broke down emotionally, Mr. Zhang learned about the assault and called Li Fengling to confront him, but Li vehemently denied the accusations. Mr. Zhang then reported the incident to the police, leading to Li Fengling’s arrest. Police found Li’s bodily fluids on Xiaojun’s clothing, shoelaces, and in his office. Faced with the evidence, Li Fengling eventually admitted to the indecent acts.

“I would never have imagined such a thing could happen; her mother also had no idea, thinking her daughter would be safe at the police station,” Mr. Zhang said.

Following the incident, Xiaojun suffered greatly, engaging in self-harm and running away from home multiple times. The family also faced backlash and rumors, eventually leading them to close their business and return to their hometown in Sichuan province.

Mr. Zhang expressed disappointment that neither Li Fengling’s family nor the police station involved had shown any remorse to his daughter.

After the incident made headlines, an official media report from Shandong, Hai Bao News, mentioned that Li had been stabbed by a drug addict, causing a delay in his wedding plans. Li graduated from the Fujian Police College in 2010 after passing the civil service exam. At 26 years old, during a drug arrest operation, he was stabbed in the right scapula by a suspect addicted to drugs, leading to a postponed wedding, and so on.

This news stirred up online chatter, with many netizens expressing outrage at the official media’s apparent defense of the police officer:

“As an official media outlet, what message are you trying to convey with that last statement?”

“It’s absurd that law enforcers become the abusers… If such acts can be whitewashed, I don’t know what to say.”

“These kinds of people definitely don’t just target one child.”

“What does a delayed wedding have to do with this? Did that cause his lust to suddenly spike? Blame it all on the drug dealer, right.”
