In Yunnan’s Lancang, a lead mine recently experienced a roof collapse incident, resulting in at least 3 deaths.
On March 23, the joint working group of Lancang County, Puer City, Yunnan Province, issued a notification stating that around 7:30 p.m. on March 19, a roof collapse occurred in section 1793 of the old lead mine of Yunnan Lancang Lead Mine Co., Ltd., causing 3 people to go missing. As of 11:50 p.m. on March 22, all 3 missing persons had been located and confirmed by medical personnel to have no vital signs.
According to reports from Nandu, just before the accident on March 10, the company organized a training session on underground mine safety education for key personnel in Yunnan’s metal and non-metal mines.
The incident sparked discussions online. Many netizens questioned why Yunnan’s media did not report the incident, saying, “Why don’t we see reports from Yunnan media? We often learn about Yunnan news from other provinces, sigh.” “How come it’s always three people who perish?” “Any incident involving more than three individuals is considered a major accident, think about it.” “They dare not report more than that.” “There are so many unreported accidents every year.” “Right after the New Year, such a tragic event occurred, how are the families going to cope?”
It is a heartbreaking incident that has once again shed light on the dangers faced by miners and the need for stringent safety measures in the mining industry to protect the lives of workers. The loss of lives in such accidents not only brings immense sorrow to the families of the victims but also raises questions about the effectiveness of safety protocols and training in preventing such tragedies. The outcry from the public over the lack of transparency and coverage of such incidents highlights the importance of accountability and open communication in ensuring the safety and well-being of workers in all industries.
