On March 20th, a homicide occurred in the Dragonlight Jiu Long Xi residential area at 66 Qinde Road in Hengqin New Area, Zhuhai City, Guangdong. Two female seniors from the University of Macau were followed into their apartment by a man when returning home at night. Authorities confirmed that one of them died, with reports suggesting dismemberment. The local police only issued a brief statement regarding the incident.
According to the notice released by Hengqin police on March 22nd, a suspect named Chen Moubo (male, 26 years old) was apprehended by the police on March 21st. Chen snuck into a residential area in Hengqin on the night of March 20th and robbed the two victims, resulting in the death of one of them.
The police notice did not disclose specific details of the case. Through interviewing nearby residents, it was revealed to Epoch Times reporters that a few details are known.
A homeowner in the area, Mr. Li, mentioned that he lived in the same building as the deceased. Before, the management of the neighborhood was not strict, but now identification is required for entry.
He revealed, “The female university student was tricked, drugged, raped, and then, fearing discovery, the assailant killed her, apparently dismembering her. It is unclear whether the drug was placed in her drink or how it was administered, but it is known that she was drugged and raped.”
Another resident remarked that the police stating it was a robbery did not seem so simple. However, the claim of drugging has not been officially confirmed. A netizen stated that the deceased and her classmate were from the same school. According to her knowledge, the assailant entered to commit a robbery but administered an overdose of drugs, attempting suicide out of fear but failing. Due to the authorities covering up information, there are many rumors circulating.
A friend of Fang Yan (pseudonym) attends the University of Macau, and a friend of her friend lives in the residential area where the incident took place. The news has spread through the university, with her mentioning, “It was a senior female student who was followed back to Zhuhai from school, the perpetrator drugged both of them, dragged one in a suitcase and dismembered her, while the other woke up and called the police.”
Fang Yan believes it was a random crime. The Jiu Long Xi is an upscale neighborhood, making such a criminal act unthinkable, especially as the victim was about to graduate.
A food delivery worker in an online forum expressed sadness upon hearing about the incident. Having been delivering food in the area for three years, he noted that despite many attractive girls, the security only registered food deliveries, and others were not required to register, highlighting a loophole.
Some homeowners also pointed out that the back entrance was another loophole, as access was easily granted through intercom inquiries and the security guard only superficially questioned entry.
The residential area covers 51,000 square meters, making it a low-density community on Hengqin Island, offering a rare pure residential project with 1102 units, primarily consisting of 5-9 story townhouses ranging from 105-150 square meters. Additionally, there are five high-rise buildings ranging from 21-31 stories. Due to its proximity to the University of Macau and fewer restrictions, the area is a convenient choice for mainland Chinese students studying in Macau due to the high rent costs in Macau (approximately 8000 RMB per month), leading them to seek housing in Zhuhai instead.
