The Communist Party of China (CPC) Shenzhen Municipal Committee Secretary is adjusted, attracting attention due to Shenzhen’s proximity to Hong Kong.
Recently, according to news from the “Southern Plus” client on March 22, the CPC Central Committee approved the appointment of Jin Lei as a member, standing committee member of the Guangdong Provincial Committee, and Secretary of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee. Meng Fanli was relieved of his position as Secretary of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of Guangdong Province.
Meng Fanli was promoted to Governor of Guangdong Province in October last year and served as Secretary of Shenzhen for five months.
Jin Lei previously served as a standing committee member of the Sichuan Provincial Committee and Minister of the Organization Department.
Public records show that Jin Lei was born in February 1970 in Jiyuan, Henan Province. He worked in Henan for many years and served as the Mayor of Anyang City in 2018. In December 2019, he was “parachuted” to Sichuan and appointed Secretary of the Deyang Municipal Committee.
In May 2022, during the leadership change of the Sichuan Provincial Committee, Jin Lei was promoted to a standing committee member of the Provincial Committee and later served as Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Commission and Minister of the Provincial Committee’s Social Work Department.
In January 2025, Jin Lei was appointed Minister of the Organization Department of the Sichuan Provincial Committee until his recent transfer to Shenzhen.
The adjustment of the Secretary of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPC Guangdong Province reflects the Party’s continuous optimization of leadership positions to enhance governance effectiveness and adapt to the changing socio-political landscape.
