President Trump expressed disappointment and dissatisfaction towards most NATO allies who refused to participate in escorting ships through the Strait of Hormuz after Iran’s blockade disrupted global energy supplies. Trump had urged allies to send warships to escort vessels passing through the strait.
In a statement posted on his social media platform “Truth Social,” Trump stated: “The majority of NATO ‘allies’ have informed the United States that they are unwilling to participate in our military actions against the terrorist regime in Iran. Despite almost all countries strongly agreeing with the actions we are taking and believing that Iran cannot be allowed to possess nuclear weapons.”
“I am not surprised by their actions, as I have always believed NATO to be a ‘one-way street’ – we spend billions of dollars every year protecting these countries, we protect them, and they will not do anything for us, especially when we need help,” the President said. “Fortunately, we have decimated Iran’s military power – their navy no longer exists, their air force no longer exists, their air defense systems and radars have been destroyed, and perhaps most importantly, nearly all levels of their leadership have been eliminated, no longer posing a threat to us, our allies in the Middle East, or the entire world!”
The President added, “With such significant military success, we no longer ‘need’ or desire the assistance of NATO countries – we never needed it! Similarly, we do not need the help of Japan, Australia, or South Korea. In fact, as the President of the United States – the most powerful country in the world – I can say: we don’t need anyone’s help!”
Trump made these remarks in the Oval Office of the White House on Tuesday, mentioning that despite NATO countries supporting the United States and Israel in their joint operation against Iran, they were reluctant to lend a hand.
“I believe NATO has made a very foolish mistake,” Trump said. “Every country agrees with our position, but they are unwilling to help. We, as the United States, must remember this because we find it very shocking.”
