On March 17th, 2026, it was reported that Lei Siwei, a member of the Standing Committee of the Gansu Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Deputy Governor, has been placed under investigation, making him another senior official to fall from grace this year.
Official reports indicate that Lei Siwei is suspected of serious violations of discipline and law, and is currently under investigation.
Lei Siwei, born in June 1966 in Jingning, Gansu, is a member of the Communist Party of China and started working in June 1989. He has served as a member of the Standing Committee of the Gansu Provincial Committee, the Deputy Governor of the provincial government, and a member of the party committee.
Throughout his career, Lei Siwei has held various positions including Deputy Director of the Technical Center of a Silver Company, Director of the Northwest Mining and Metallurgy Research Institute, Deputy Chief Engineer and Director of the Technical Transformation Department at Silver Nonferrous Group Co., Ltd., Deputy General Manager, Chief Engineer, and member of the Party Committee at Silver Nonferrous Group Co., Ltd., as well as Director, General Manager, and member of the Party Committee at Silver Nonferrous Group Co., Ltd.
In March 2018, Lei Siwei became the Party Secretary and Director of the Gansu Provincial Department of Environmental Protection; in January 2020, he assumed the role of Party Secretary and Director of the Gansu Provincial Department of Natural Resources; and in July 2021, he was appointed the Party Secretary of Jiayuguan City in Gansu Province. In January 2023, he became the Deputy Governor of the Gansu Provincial Government and the Party Secretary of Jiayuguan City.
Starting from March 2023, Lei Siwei served as the Deputy Governor of Gansu Province, and in June 2025, he became a member of the Standing Committee of the Gansu Provincial Committee and the Deputy Governor.
