Shake-up in Jiangsu Officialdom: Three Vice-Director Level Officials Sacked in Four Days

On March 16, 2026, deputy mayor Yu Lizhong of Nantong City, Jiangsu Province, and member of the Ruyi County Political Consultative Conference, He Ningling, were investigated. Over the past two and a half months, nearly 30 officials from Jiangsu Province have been investigated, including several officials from Nanjing.

Yu Lizhong, born in February 1971 in Nantong, Jiangsu Province, graduated from the School of Agricultural Extension at Yangzhou University. He has held various positions in Nanjing, including as a member of the Ruyi County Party Committee and Deputy County Chief, Deputy Secretary, Mayor, and Party Secretary of Hai’an City. In December 2023, he was appointed Deputy Mayor of Nantong City and a member of the party committee.

On the same day, He Ningling, member of the Ruyi County Political Consultative Conference and Director of the Economic, Technological, and Agricultural Committee, was also investigated.

In February 2026, Zhang Yajun, a class two director and officer of the Dataport Bureau in Rugao City under Nantong, was also investigated. Zhang Yajun previously served as Deputy Director of the Investment Project Construction Center and Deputy Director of the Office of Public Resource Trading Management in Rugao City.

On January 19, 2026, Lu Xiaoqiang, Deputy Manager of the Operations and Development Department of Nantong Chongchuan Science and Technology Park Investment Development Co., Ltd., was investigated.

Within four days, including Yu Lizhong, three deputy bureau-level officials in Jiangsu Province were investigated while in office. On March 13, Xu Wen, member of the Standing Committee of the Zhenjiang Municipal Party Committee and Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee, was investigated. On March 14, Xu Kejian, member of the Standing Committee of the Taizhou Municipal Party Committee and Minister of the United Front Work Department, was investigated.

Public records show that Xu Wen, born in July 1968 in Zhangjiang, Jiangsu, has held various positions in Zhenjiang, including Deputy Secretary and Mayor of Jurong City, Deputy Secretary, Mayor, and Party Secretary of Jurong City, and Deputy Mayor and Party Committee member of Zhenjiang. Since 2019, he has been a member of the Standing Committee of the Zhenjiang Municipal Committee and Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee.

Xu Kejian, born in June 1967 in Taizhou, Jiangsu, has served in various positions in Taizhou, including Deputy Secretary-General of the Taizhou Municipal Government, Director of the Supervision Office, Deputy Secretary, and Mayor of Xinghua City, Secretary of the Haijing District Party Committee of Taizhou, member of the Standing Committee of the Taizhou Municipal Party Committee, and Secretary-General and Deputy Mayor of Taizhou City. Since January 2025, he has been a member of the Standing Committee of the Taizhou Municipal Party Committee and Minister of the United Front Work Department.

On March 16, 2026, the Nanjing Discipline Inspection Commission announced the investigation of five officials, including Shi Jianjun, Captain of the Emergency Management Comprehensive Administrative Enforcement Brigade in the Jiangbei New Area of Nanjing, Li Chunmei, former Deputy Director of the Management Committee of Pukou Economic Development Zone in Nanjing, Li Ying, Chairman of the Jiangning District Talent Group Co., Ltd., Li Zhenglong, Deputy Director of the Ecological Environment Bureau of Yuhuatai District in Nanjing, and Chen Furen, former class two researcher of the Urban and Rural Construction Bureau of Jiangning District in Nanjing.

According to the official website of the Jiangsu Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection, in the past two and a half months of 2026, many officials in Nanjing have been investigated, including Xiong Jun, member of the Party Working Committee and Deputy Director of the Management Committee of Xianlin University Town in Nanjing (March 12), Sito Xingfu, former class two inspector of the Nanjing Urban Management Bureau (February 11), Xu Qiaoxiang, former member of the Party Committee and Deputy General Manager of the Nanjing Metro Group (January 26), Chen Hongxiang, former Deputy Party Secretary and Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of the Jiangning District in Nanjing (January 9).

According to the official website of the Jiangsu Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection, in addition to the three deputy bureau-level officials and the four officials from Nanjing mentioned earlier, other officials investigated include Li Sheng, Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of Gaoyou City, Jiang Weiqi, Deputy District Head of Binhu District in Wuxi City, Tang Cheng, Deputy County Chief of Jianhu County, He Yuliang, Class Two Researcher of the Water Resources Bureau of Yancheng, Kuang Min, Director of the Water Resources Engineering Management Center in Wuxi City, Wang Xiangqian, Deputy Head of the Shu Gang-Shouxi Lake Scenic Area Management Committee in Yangzhou City, Deng Shujun, Class Four Researcher in Liangxi District of Wuxi City, Yin Xudong, Vice Chairman of the Yangzhou Political Consultative Conference, Yang Guangsheng, former Vice Chairman of the Political Consultative Conference in Shuyang County, Zhou Jialin, former Deputy Secretary-General of the Changzhou Municipal Committee, Yao Jisong, former Director of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of Quanshan District, Xuzhou, Fang Binbin, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Jiangsu Environmental Protection Group, Xue Yuchen, Deputy General Manager of Jiangsu Nanhe Railway Co., Ltd., Zhang Chunfu, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the Political Consultative Conference in Changzhou, Huang Xianjun, former Deputy Bureau Chief of the Wuxi Banking and Insurance Regulatory Bureau, Ding Bo, Deputy Director of the Jiangsu Chess Institute, Xu De, Secretary of the Party Committee of Suqian College, and Shen Naifeng, former class two researcher of the Industry and Information Bureau in Yancheng.

The Jiangsu Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection revealed that nearly 30 officials have been investigated since the beginning of 2026.
