19-year-old Man in Chengdu Drives Without License, Causes 1 Death and 6 Injuries

On the evening of March 13, a major traffic accident occurred in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. A 19-year-old man named Cao drove a small car without a license and failed to follow traffic signal instructions, resulting in 1 death and 6 injuries. The police have ruled out drunk driving and drug driving.

According to the report from the Traffic Management Bureau of Chengdu Public Security Bureau on March 14, at around 7:52 pm on the 13th, a road traffic accident occurred at the intersection of Yingmenkou Road and Jinniu Avenue in Chengdu.

It was reported that the 19-year-old man Cao was driving a small car with license plate “川G9***6” along Jinniu Avenue towards the east. When the vehicle reached the intersection of Yingmenkou Road and Jinniu Avenue, Cao did not follow the traffic signal instructions and collided with two tricycles and pedestrians crossing the road. The accident resulted in 1 death and 6 injuries. The injured have been taken to the hospital for treatment, and there is no immediate threat to their lives.

After testing, the suspicion of drunk driving or drug driving by Cao has been ruled out. It was preliminarily found that Cao did not have a valid driver’s license and has been detained by the police. The investigation and follow-up work on the accident are ongoing.

According to a report from self-media outlet “Doctor Observation,” based on eyewitness accounts and subsequent investigations, when Cao approached the intersection of Yingmenkou Road and Jinniu Avenue, he did not stop as per the traffic signal instructions and instead accelerated through the red light, directly colliding with the normal flow of traffic and pedestrians.

The tricycles involved in the collision were severely deformed, with debris scattered around. The front of the offending vehicle was severely damaged, and all airbags deployed. Several injured individuals were lying on the road. At around 8:15 pm, all the injured were taken to the nearby Third People’s Hospital of Chengdu and Sichuan Provincial People’s Hospital for further treatment.

The report mentioned that the victim who died at the scene was a 54-year-old male tricycle driver named Wang. His family stated that Wang earned a living by transporting small goods on his tricycle, which was their main source of income. At the time of the accident, he had just finished work for the day and was on his way home.

Among the 6 injured individuals, there is another male tricycle driver named Zhang (48 years old) and 5 pedestrians. The severity of their injuries varies: 2 were diagnosed with multiple fractures and internal contusions, with more serious injuries; 3 mainly suffered from soft tissue contusions and lacerations; 1 had minor abrasions.

As of the morning of March 14, the vital signs of the 6 injured individuals were stable, with 2 severely injured patients having undergone surgery overnight and no longer in life-threatening condition but still requiring further observation in the intensive care unit; the other 4 patients were stable and receiving treatment in regular wards.
