Due to the ongoing shortage of storage chips, several mobile phone brands in mainland China are reportedly preparing to increase their product prices. Some new models are expected to see price hikes ranging from 500 to 2000 Chinese Yuan, while some older models are already experiencing shortages. Industry insiders believe that this could mark the largest round of price increases in the mobile phone market in the past five years.
Multiple media outlets in mainland China have recently reported that several mobile phone manufacturers are considering adjusting their product prices in the latter half of March.
On March 10th, mobile phone brand OPPO announced that starting from March 16th, they will be adjusting prices for some of their already released models, including certain models from the A series, K series, and the OnePlus brand. The company stated that this adjustment is mainly due to the increased costs of key components such as high-speed storage.
Meanwhile, other manufacturers such as vivo, Xiaomi, and Honor are also expected to follow suit with price adjustments in the near future.
According to reports from the Red Star News, the trend of price hikes for new models has become widespread in the industry. Even for consumers hoping to make purchases before the price increases, shortages of available models from many brands have been observed. Some retailers have disclosed that the price hikes for new models are expected to fall between 500 to 2000 Yuan, with specific prices subject to official announcements from the manufacturers.
Citing industry sources, the Science and Technology Innovation Board Daily reported that this would be the largest and most significant collective price adjustment in the mobile phone industry in the past five years. Market research firm Counterpoint Research predicts that the average selling price of new smartphones in the Chinese market after March is expected to increase by 15% to 25% compared to models from 2025.
This trend of price hikes is also affecting the laptop market. Sales staff at Huawei experience stores have confirmed that certain computer products will see price adjustments this week, with increases of approximately 17% to 20%, translating to price hikes ranging from 800 to 1500 Yuan per unit. The sales staff further mentioned that while current inventory products have not seen price hikes yet, some models are facing tight supply.
Industry experts in mainland China analyze that the shortage of storage chips is unlikely to ease in the short term, leading to the possibility of multiple price hikes in the future for electronic products such as mobile phones.
