10 vehicles collide on Hong Kong Tsing Ma Bridge, 11 injured.

On March 12, 2026, a multiple-vehicle collision occurred on the Tsing Ma Bridge in Hong Kong heading towards the airport, involving at least 10 cars and resulting in 11 injuries, with two individuals briefly trapped inside their vehicles. The accident caused significant traffic disruptions towards the airport direction, leading to the closure of some lanes for clearance.

According to a report by Sing Tao Headline, around 8:30 am on the same day, the police received a report of a traffic accident near Ma Wan on the Tsing Yi Tsing Ma Bridge, where multiple private cars collided consecutively while traveling towards the airport. The scene involved a minimum of 10 vehicles, including one seven-seater car overturned by the impact and another vehicle emitting thick smoke, with glass shards and car parts scattered on the road.

Upon arrival, rescuers found a total of 8 drivers and 3 passengers injured, mostly complaining of headaches, abdominal pain, or limb injuries. All injured individuals remained conscious and were subsequently taken to North Lantau Hospital for treatment.

Preliminary investigations by the police suggest that during the incident, several private cars were traveling towards the airport along the Tsing Yi Highway, with the leading vehicle slowing down due to traffic conditions. Subsequent vehicles following behind were suspected to have failed to brake in time, leading to a chain-reaction collision affecting adjacent lane vehicles. Two cars slowed down in response to the traffic, while the remaining 8 failed to stop in time, causing a series of forward collisions. All injured parties, who remained conscious, were transported to North Lantau Hospital for treatment.

Due to the accident, some lanes heading towards the airport were temporarily closed, resulting in severe traffic congestion with queues extending to nearby sections of the bridge. After the area was cleared, traffic gradually resumed, and bus services also returned to normal operations.

Subsequently, the police arrested a 46-year-old male private car driver on suspicion of driving during a period when his driver’s license was suspended, and he is currently detained for further investigation.
