UN Passes Resolution Condemning Iran’s Attacks on Gulf States, China and Russia Abstain

On Wednesday, March 11, the United Nations Security Council passed a resolution led by Bahrain condemning Iran’s attacks on Gulf countries.

The resolution was approved by 13 votes in favor, with China and Russia abstaining.

The resolution uses “strongest language” to condemn Iran for its “egregious attacks” on Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan, and notes that Iran’s missile and drone attacks on Gulf countries violate international law, posing a serious threat to international peace and security.

The resolution also demands that Iran “immediately cease” all attacks on the aforementioned countries.

A representative from Bahrain stated that the adoption of Resolution 2817 (2026) by the United Nations Security Council reflects the “collective conscience” of the international community. The resolution was submitted by the Gulf Cooperation Council and co-sponsored by 135 member states.

Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon said the vote reflects the growing international discontent with Iran’s actions.

Danon expressed, “The Iranian Islamic regime, out of desperation, launched attacks against countries in the region. The Tehran regime is trying to export terrorism and destruction, but even the Security Council is becoming increasingly impatient with Iran’s aggressive behavior.”

The United Arab Emirates’ Permanent Mission to the United Nations welcomed the Security Council’s adoption of the resolution on Wednesday, calling on Iran to stop attacking Gulf countries.

The UAE delegation said, “The resolution, which received the largest number of co-sponsoring countries in the history of the Security Council, has overwhelming support, sending a clear signal to Iran from the international community. The Security Council’s position is crystal clear: Iran must immediately cease its attacks on our countries.”

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Mike Waltz, stated on Wednesday that Iran lies, claiming they only target military objectives, but countries in the Persian Gulf are well aware of the truth.
