US Embassy in Norway bombing case: Authorities arrest three brothers

On Wednesday, March 11, Norwegian police arrested three Norwegian citizens of Iraqi descent on suspicion of being involved in the explosive device detonation outside the US Embassy in Oslo last weekend.

Prosecutor Christian Hatlo stated that the three arrested individuals are Iraqi-born brothers living in Oslo. One of them was arrested for allegedly placing the bomb, while the other two are suspected of assisting and inciting the arrested individual.

According to the police, on Monday, someone placed an improvised explosive device (IED) at the entrance of the US Embassy in Norway at 1 a.m. on Sunday morning. The explosion resulted in minor damage with no casualties.

Earlier, the police mentioned that around the same time as the explosion outside the embassy, a video depicting the late Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei appeared on Google Maps. The authorities are investigating any possible connection between these two incidents.

The authorities are still investigating the motives behind the crime, with the Norwegian National Criminal Investigation Service, the Police Security Service, and the US Embassy participating in the investigation.

The prosecutor mentioned that given the current security situation and the target, the police have put forward several possibilities, including whether state actors were involved in the planning.

Hatlo stated that the three men had no prior criminal record, but did not rule out the possibility of more arrests in the future.
