Multiple Israeli media outlets reported on Monday (March 9) that an Iranian missile carrying a cluster warhead attacked the central region of Israel, resulting in the death of one and serious injury of another Chinese construction worker.
This marks the seventh attack launched by Iran against Israel and Gulf countries since midnight.
The cluster warhead hit at least six locations in central Israel, including Yehud, Or Yehuda, Holon, and Bat Yam.
The Israeli Red Cross stated that at a construction site in Yehud, two men in their forties were hit by shrapnel, with one sustaining fatal injuries. An explosion also occurred at a construction site in Or Yehuda, where a man in his thirties was seriously injured and has been taken to the hospital.
Local media outlets Channel 12, Ha’aretz, and The Marker all reported that the two workers were of Chinese nationality.
Photos from the explosion site show craters on the ground, with vehicles and buildings damaged by the blast.
According to reports, the two Chinese construction workers who were injured were not in a safe zone at the time of the incident.
An Israeli Defense Forces (MDA) medic told local media outlet Walla, “When we arrived at the scene, we saw two injured men lying on the ground amidst the chaos. We found one severely injured individual who was taken to Sheba Hospital, and unfortunately, one worker lost his life.”
“This is a large construction site, and most of it was struck by shrapnel. There were around 40 workers present. From what I understand, there are bomb shelters around the site, but regrettably, the deceased and the critically injured did not make it to the safe area,” the medic added.
After rescue efforts, one worker was pronounced dead on the scene, while the other with serious injuries was taken to the hospital.
Iran conducted attacks across various regions of Israel, including the south, central, and north. Additionally, Iran-backed Hezbollah terrorist organization launched missiles and drones towards the northern region of Israel.
In another morning attack, a woman in Rishon LeZion was injured.
Medical personnel from the Israeli Defense Forces (MDA) provided head injury treatment to the woman in her fifties, who was hit in the head by shrapnel from a cluster bomb that landed in the area. She was subsequently transported to Shamir Medical Center and is currently in stable condition.
Hospital staff later confirmed that her physical condition is good. At the time of the incident, she was not in a bomb shelter.
The Iranian state broadcaster IRIB praised the airstrike, stating that Iran, under the leadership of Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the late Ayatollah Khamenei, launched the “first wave of missiles” at occupied territories. Mojtaba Khamenei has recently taken over leadership following his father’s death.
While Iran continues to launch missiles towards Israel, the Israeli Defense Forces continue to carry out airstrikes on targets within Iran.
The Israeli Defense Forces reported conducting airstrikes on several bases of the Iranian Basij militia and domestic security forces in Isfahan, as well as missile launch sites in other parts of the country.
During the airstrike on Isfahan, the Israeli Defense Forces stated that they targeted the headquarters of the “regional corps,” the command center of the domestic security forces, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and Basij militia bases, along with the police headquarters of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Furthermore, the Israeli Air Force also targeted an Iranian rocket engine production facility and a missile launch site in other locations.
