Buying a Geely car for 70,000 yuan requires 9 hours to charge, mainland car owners call it getting into a pit.

Recently, a car owner in Zhoukou, Henan province, expressed his discontent on a mainland social media platform. He had recently spent 70,000 yuan (RMB) to purchase a Geely Star Wish all-electric car, hoping to save money and effort. However, to his surprise, the car didn’t fully charge overnight. When he sought an explanation from the seller, they simply replied, “If you didn’t ask, we wouldn’t have told you,” sparking a heated discussion online.

According to reports from various mainland media, the car owner, Mr. Zhang (alias), purchased the Geely Star Wish 310km Youth Edition, with an official guide price of 68,800 yuan, totaling around 70,000 yuan.

Mr. Zhang mentioned that his previous electric car could fully charge overnight, but this car, despite charging from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., still wasn’t full. He expressed frustration, saying, “I needed the car urgently in the morning for work, so you can imagine how stressful it was.”

After checking the data later, Mr. Zhang discovered that the car was equipped with a 30.12 kWh LFP battery from CATL, with a slow charging power of only 3.3 kW, requiring approximately 9 hours to go from zero to full charge.

“I feel like I’ve fallen into a pit,” Mr. Zhang said helplessly. Before buying the car, he specifically asked the salesperson about the charging time, to which they only replied, “It can fully charge overnight,” without mentioning the specific charging power. Upon checking the Geely official website, Mr. Zhang couldn’t find any information regarding slow charging power.

When Mr. Zhang approached the dealership for an explanation, they retorted, “You didn’t ask about the power specifically, so we weren’t obligated to provide more information. Our official website is not a marketing platform, for technical details, you can check on websites like Autohome.”

The response from the seller triggered mockery online. Netizens commented, “Isn’t the official website a marketing platform? What’s the point of its existence?” “So, consumers have to search for critical parameters on third-party platforms themselves. The seller didn’t even fulfill the basic duty of disclosure.” “Domestic manufacturers often evade sharing complete information, the fact is such. It’s not to criticize domestic products, it’s just reality.”

In fact, the issue Mr. Zhang encountered is not isolated. On platforms like Chezhai and Autohome forums, many owners of Geely Star Wish 310km range versions have reported similar problems.

Reports indicate that there is a significant difference in slow charging power for Geely Star Wish models: the 310km range version (such as the Youth Edition, Dream Edition) has a slow charging power of around 3.5 kW, taking about 9 hours to charge to about 30 kWh, while the 410km range version has a 7 kW slow charging power, reducing the charging time to roughly half, taking just over 5 hours.
