Three years ago, in Yantai, Shandong Province, a little yellow dog accidentally fell into an abandoned deep well. After nearly 40 rescue attempts, it was finally successfully rescued recently. Due to being trapped in the dark and damp environment underground for a long time, the dog’s vision has severely deteriorated, and it is currently receiving treatment and observation at a pet hospital.
According to reports from mainland media outlets, in 2023, this white Tang dog fell into a abandoned well in Yantai. The well was about 40 to 50 meters deep, equivalent to 13 to 17 stories high. The narrow well opening with steep walls and complex and winding passages at the bottom posed great difficulties for the rescue operation. Over the years, members of the public and animal rescue personnel made numerous rescue attempts, but due to limited space, harsh environment, and the dog’s tendency to retreat deeper upon seeing strangers, the operation was extremely challenging and ultimately unsuccessful.
Mr. Zhao, a member of the Yantai “Flower Arm Animal Rescue Team,” stated that rescue operations were conducted close to 40 times over the course of three years without giving up. Fortunately, nearby residents regularly fed the dog food and water through the well, allowing the dog to survive tenaciously.
Recently, rescue personnel specially designed a device to lure the dog into a trap by placing food in it, successfully coaxing the dog into it, and ultimately bringing it back to the surface safely. The moment of seeing the light again left everyone present deeply touched.
However, due to the prolonged exposure to a dark environment, the dog’s vision has severely deteriorated, and its physical condition is relatively weak. Currently, it is receiving further examination and treatment at a pet hospital.
