Qatar sent a letter to the United Nations on Tuesday, March 3, stating that the Qatari air defense forces shot down two Iranian Su-24 fighter jets to prevent their attack on Qatari territory. At the same time, Qatar also arrested 10 members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
In the letter addressed to the United Nations, Qatar shared the contents of the letter on X platform. The letter revealed that the Qatari Ministry of Defense announced on Monday that the Qatari Air Force successfully shot down two Su-24 warplanes from Iran. The air defense system also intercepted seven ballistic missiles, and the Qatari Air Force and Navy intercepted five unmanned drones that targeted various locations within Qatar.
The letter further stated that the Qatari Ministry of Defense also announced that Qatar had been subjected to two drone attacks from Iran. The first attack targeted the water tank at the Mesaieed Power Plant, and the second attacked a energy facility belonging to QatarEnergy in Ras Laffan Industrial City, neither of which caused any casualties.
The Qatari government denounced the Iranian attacks as a blatant violation of Qatar’s national sovereignty, directly undermining Qatar’s security and territorial integrity, and posing an unacceptable escalation of the situation, threatening the security and stability of the region.
Qatar warned that, in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, Qatar reserves the right to take defensive actions.
On the same day, Qatar announced that it had arrested 10 individuals suspected of being associated with the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
According to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), authorities apprehended two groups believed to be “representatives” of IRGC conducting activities within Qatar.
Reports indicate that among the 10 suspects, seven were responsible for monitoring Qatar’s military facilities, while the remaining three were tasked with carrying out “destructive activities” and had received training in drone operation. Sensitive information, including the location and coordinates of critical facilities and devices, communication equipment, and technical devices, were found on their persons.
