Walmart recalls Saputo-produced country cheese: suspected incomplete sterilization.

Retail giant Walmart announced on Wednesday (February 25) that it is recalling Cottage cheese sold in 24 states, as the liquid dairy ingredients used in the product may not have been fully pasteurized.

Manufacturer Saputo Cheese USA Inc. discovered that some products may not have been fully pasteurized, prompting them to issue a voluntary recall.

The affected products were sold under Walmart’s “Great Value” brand.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) stated that as of February 24, no illness reports related to the recalled cheese have been received, but consuming products not fully pasteurized can pose “severe health risks, especially to children, the elderly, or those with weakened immune systems.”

The recall notice indicates that the cheese was distributed from February 17 to 20 to 24 states including Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, Texas, Tennessee, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.

Walmart advises customers who purchased the affected products to either discard them or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
