Fourth Week of Grace Lee’s Disappearance: Police Respond to Speculation of Perpetrator Scouting the Area Twice

The investigation and search for Nancy Guthrie, who has been missing for 23 days, have yielded no information on any suspects. Photos suggest that the suspect may have visited Guthrie’s residence twice before the incident.

According to a report from The Capitol Hill News on Tuesday (February 24), sources confirmed that before the 84-year-old Guthrie went missing from her home in Tucson, Arizona on February 1, the suspect may have visited her residence. Surveillance footage and photos obtained by NewsNation show the suspect appearing at Guthrie’s house on different dates.

Sources revealed to ABC News and NewsNation that FBI acquired doorbell camera footage showing a masked man at Guthrie’s residence. The suspect, who approached the residence before the kidnapping without a backpack, was captured on video on a different date from the day of the abduction.

Meanwhile, the FBI also obtained another photo of the suspect carrying a black Ozark Trail Hiker backpack, taken on the morning of the disappearance.

Speculation suggests that the suspect may have been deterred by the camera during the initial visit, returned later, and attempted to block the lens with branches. However, some speculate that the man without a backpack and the one blocking the camera may not be the same individual.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos stated in a declaration on February 23 that authorities have received discussions about suspects with different attire, including those with and without backpacks, but the images do not have dates or times marked. Therefore, claims that they were taken on different dates are purely speculative.

The statement emphasizes that the case is still an ongoing criminal investigation, and speculations without factual basis will not progress the investigation.

Over the weekend, the search area for the volunteer search team shifted to underground tunnels in Tucson in hopes of finding clues related to the Guthrie case.

The team has found a suspicious backpack so far, which has been taken as evidence by the Pima County Sheriff’s Office.

These tunnels are near Guthrie’s residence in Catalina Foothills, located to the northeast of Tucson, about 8 miles (approximately 13 kilometers) from the city center.
