The Chinese Communist All-China Women’s Federation recently launched a new book about the party leader Xi Jinping’s so-called “Walk into the People’s Homes,” claiming to reflect the “people’s leader loves the people.” Mainland Chinese interviewees expressed that this is a fraudulent and deceptive tactic. Some overseas individuals stated that Xi is actually very fearful of stepping into the real environment of the common people.
According to a report from Xinhua News Agency, the All-China Women’s Federation recently organized the publication of the second volume of “Xi Jinping Walks into the People’s Homes,” which narrates stories of Xi’s inspections and research trips to various places since the 18th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party in 2012. Official media claims that the new book reflects the so-called “the people’s leader loving the people, and the people’s leader being loved by the people.”
In response to this, a mainland Chinese citizen, Ms. Zhu, told Epoch Times that most people internally doubt these reports because the promoted content contradicts the actual experiences of people’s lives. Everyone knows that Xi Jinping’s local inspections are often staged activities coordinated by “theater actors.” The official packaging of Xi’s so-called “people’s leader” image during the Chinese New Year is in itself a fabrication and deception.
Mr. Ji, another citizen, remarked that Xi is very good at acting, but his acting skills are poor. “The followers below keep praising him and speaking positively. The key point is that over the past decade, he has made the economy increasingly bleak with no signs of improvement.”
He believes that these official practices are nothing but attempts to compensate for Xi’s image deficiencies to enhance the legitimacy of the entire ruling group.
Mr. Ji further noted that in the current environment within China, even those with genuine thoughts may not necessarily speak their minds, and many people conform and speak nonsense.
In recent years, China has been experiencing continued political pressures and economic downturns. During the Lunar New Year period this year, official media heavily promoted a “warm and festive Chinese New Year.” However, some Henan people returning home for the holidays told Epoch Times that this year’s holiday sentiment was even less festive than before. The common people struggled in 2025 and feel confused in 2026, now even criticizing the authorities during meal times.
In the past few years, whenever Xi Jinping conducts research in various places, local officials would usually arrange a façade of a “people-friendly show” for Xi. According to official media reports, on February 9-10 this year, Xi inspected and visited grassroots officials in Beijing.
Senior commentator and Canadian writer Sheng Xue told Epoch Times that since Xi Jinping came to power, he has been relentlessly performing so-called people-friendly shows. This Lunar New Year, he also put on a show in Beijing, where the crowd seemingly gathered randomly. However, upon closer inspection, it was found to be pre-rehearsed. “Later, I also heard from people within the Chinese Communist system that these participants were selected from a few military compounds.”
Sheng Xue mentioned that during Xi’s “people-friendly shows,” not a single person was seen filming with a phone. “Nowadays, people carry phones everywhere, so it’s hard to believe that a gathering of hundreds or thousands of people wouldn’t have anyone recording. This oversight is quite glaring. Moreover, the positioning of people around, including intermittent security personnel, resembles a professional cinematic layout.”
Sheng Xue stated that Xi Jinping also dares not enter into the real environment of the common people. He is extremely timid and filled with fear towards the people. Although he is a dictatorial autocrat, he still needs a folksy image to deceive people into supporting him.
The incident of the “Iron Chain Woman” in Xuzhou at the beginning of 2021 shocked both domestic and international audiences. The Chinese Communist Women’s Federation, which claims to defend women’s rights but took no action, became a target of public condemnation. During the National People’s Congress in March of that year, the head of the All-China Women’s Federation did not mention a word about the Iron Chain Woman. Instead, she praised Xi Jinping’s “steadfast leadership” and claimed that the Women’s Federation should lead women to “listen to the Party and follow the Party,” among other things. There have been calls from the public to “dissolve the Women’s Federation.”
