In the midst of unprecedented changes in the global automotive industry, the American Chinese Association West will hold a special seminar in Los Angeles focusing on power technology transformation.
The seminar will take place on Saturday, the 28th, from 2 pm to 5 pm at the meeting room of the Los Angeles Overseas Chinese Center located at 9443 Telstar Ave, El Monte, CA 91731. It will be conducted by Dr. Yongtai Xu, a PhD in Economic History from Oxford University, with the theme “Industrial Trends of Internal Combustion Engines and Electric Vehicles – Breaking through and Dialogue in the Century of Power.”
This academic seminar will delve into the history of the industry and the global economic landscape, providing an in-depth analysis of the internal combustion engine technology that has supported the automotive industry for over a century. It will explore long-term competitive advantages in efficiency improvement, cost control, and global supply chain layout. The speaker pointed out that car manufacturers in the United States, Japan, and Germany have established solid industrial moats through continuous technological innovation and large-scale production, indicating that the lifecycle of internal combustion engine technology has not yet ended.
In contrast, the development of China’s independent brand automotive industry has rapidly expanded under policy promotion, carbon neutrality goals, and digital technology support, becoming an important driver of the electrification wave. However, its development also faces multiple challenges such as energy structure transformation, manufacturing cost pressure, tariff barriers, and charging infrastructure.
The lecture will further explore how car manufacturers can strategically choose between maintaining internal combustion engine technology, developing pure electric vehicles, promoting hybrid power, and laying out diverse energy routes against the backdrop of global net-zero emissions and geopolitical reorganization. Whether the future competition in automotive power will evolve into brutal elimination or form a pattern of rational coexistence of multiple technologies will be a crucial factor affecting the global industrial structure and people’s livelihood economies.
The American Chinese Association West stated that the seminar is suitable for professionals and the general public interested in industry development, energy policies, and investment trends. They warmly welcome active participation to collectively analyze this significant transformation that impacts the global economic landscape.
