New York City’s slowly melting remnants of snow may see a replenishment this weekend. Weather forecasts indicate that a developing storm system could bring 3 to 5 inches of snow to the New York metropolitan area on Sunday (22nd), but meteorologists stress that the actual snowfall amount will depend on the path of the storm.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) prediction, Saturday (21st) will be relatively warm and dry. Snow is expected to start early Sunday morning around 7:00 a.m., with the main snowfall period from Sunday afternoon to evening, gradually tapering off by Monday morning.
If the storm path shifts slightly northwest, snowfall in the New York City area could potentially exceed 6 inches.
In addition to snowfall, this low-pressure system is expected to bring other threats, including strong winds with speeds reaching 30 to 40 miles per hour. Coastal areas face the risk of flooding during the stormy winds and snow on Sunday and Monday.
The New York City Emergency Management Agency is reminding residents on social media to adjust their travel plans for Sunday and Monday morning. If possible, it is advised to avoid unnecessary travel to allow snow removal personnel to work. For essential travel, it is recommended to use public transportation and anticipate delays.
Meanwhile, Governor Hochu is urging all residents in the state to make preparations in advance, allocate sufficient time for travel, have emergency supplies in their vehicles, reduce speed, drive cautiously on potentially slick roads.
