The police in Limestone County, Alabama, reported on social media a home invasion armed robbery on the evening of February 14 (Saturday). The resident of the home fought back with a gun, hitting the suspect multiple times before he fled to seek medical attention and was subsequently arrested by the authorities.
According to Limestone County police, on the midnight of February 11 (Wednesday), officers responded to a report of a shooting during a home invasion at 18000 Highway 99. Upon arrival, it was revealed that the suspect had fled the scene after being shot by the homeowner. The Criminal Investigation Division immediately collected evidence and launched an investigation. While en route, they received a notification from the dispatch center that a man with gunshot wounds was seeking treatment at Decatur-Morgan Hospital. Investigators then proceeded to the hospital.
The police investigation identified the suspect as 31-year-old Tanner Stewart Phillips from Hartselle, Alabama. Phillips was accused of breaking into a residence in the middle of the night and damaging vehicles. When confronted by the homeowner, Phillips allegedly pointed a rifle at them and chased them into the house. At that moment, another resident of the home fired his gun, hitting Phillips multiple times before he fled the scene.
Investigators confirmed that Phillips was wearing a ski mask, a bulletproof vest, and was armed with a rifle and a handgun during the incident. These items were seized during the investigation process.
After receiving medical treatment at the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, Phillips was discharged and then arrested by the police. He is facing charges of illegal entry, vehicle tampering, first-degree robbery, and first-degree burglary. Phillips has been transferred to Limestone County Jail, where he is currently being held in custody with no bail set yet.
