Huawei former technology executive arrested for alleged bribery

On February 13, Huawei released an internal anti-corruption briefing stating that Deng, former director of the BG Multimedia Technology Department, has been arrested on January 15 by the Longgang District Procuratorate of Shenzhen for allegedly accepting bribes as a non-state employee.

According to reports from mainland media “Jiemian News,” the internal anti-corruption briefing document 2026 (001) released by Huawei shows that Deng joined Huawei in July 2007 and held various positions such as engineer in the Terminal Overall Technology Hardware Platform Department, senior engineer in the Terminal Device and Normalization Department, senior engineer in the Terminal Multimedia Technology Department, architect, manager of the Camera Department, and director of the Multimedia Technology Department.

Investigations by judicial authorities revealed that Deng allegedly used his position to seek undue benefits for suppliers, receiving substantial kickbacks during his tenure.

Public records show that after leaving Huawei, Deng became the chairman of Shanghai Honor Smart Technology Development Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Honor, in May 2023, and served as the president of the R&D Management Department of Honor Terminal Co., Ltd., responsible for product development.

On May 16, 2024, Honor issued an internal notification stating that Deng Bin, the president of the R&D Management Department, seriously violated the company’s BCG (Business Conduct Guidelines). After deliberation, it was decided to terminate Deng Bin’s labor contract and dismiss him from the company, with further actions to be taken according to relevant procedures. However, Honor did not disclose specific details of the violations.

According to “Jiemian News,” citing informed sources, after being dismissed by Honor, Deng Bin reportedly joined Meizu under the alias name within Geely Holding Group.
