Former Inner Mongolia Chair Wang Lixia Expelled for Accepting Enormous Bribes

The former chairman of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region government, Wang Lixia, has been expelled from the Chinese Communist Party and dismissed from public office (“double designation”), with the authorities accusing her of “saying one thing and doing another” in relation to the Central Committee of the CCP, as well as accepting large amounts of money.

According to the official news agency Xinhua on February 12, Wang Lixia, a member of the 20th Central Committee of the CCP, former deputy secretary of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Party Committee, and former chairman of the autonomous region government, has been “subjected to investigation.”

Wang Lixia is accused of severely deviating from the so-called “two safeguards” (a term commonly used by Xi Jinping’s administration), “implementing the decisions and arrangements of the CCP Central Committee in a deceptive and arbitrary manner,” “illegally entering private clubs,” “failing to report personal matters as required,” “not truthfully explaining issues,” seeking personal gain and receiving benefits for others in cadres selection and appointment, interfering in judicial activities, having a corrupt family environment, mismanaging and not educating family members, using her professional position to seek benefits for others in project approvals, engineering contracts, and illegally accepting large sums of money, and more.

She is charged with serious violations of duty and alleged bribery crimes, resulting in the termination of her CCP membership and public office, the cancellation of her qualifications as a delegate to the 20th National Congress of the CCP and as a representative of the 11th Party Congress of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and she has been referred for prosecution.

Wang Lixia fell from her position in August 2025. Du Wen, a former Inner Mongolia official living abroad, exposed that Wang Lixia, known as the “Queen of Makeovers,” had improper relationships with former Central Organization Department Minister Zhao Leji, and current Central Organization Department Minister Shi Taifeng, who previously served in Inner Mongolia.

More than a month after Wang Lixia’s downfall in September 2025, 65-year-old Sun Shaocheng was removed from his position as the Party Secretary of Inner Mongolia. The following month, Sun Shaocheng was appointed as the Deputy Director of the National People’s Congress Social Construction Committee. On January 29, 2026, Sun Shaocheng also fell from power.

Du Wen, the former official from Inner Mongolia, stated that Sun Shaocheng’s troubles were related to Wang Lixia’s downfall. After Sun Shaocheng took over as the Party Secretary of Inner Mongolia, his son frequently participated in various activities in Inner Mongolia, and had a close relationship with Wang Lixia’s son. They were involved in a wide range of areas together, from engineering contracts and personnel adjustments to mining development.
