2-year-old boy from Sichuan goes missing at home, police report made but no progress in 5 months

Sichuan Luzhou Xuyong County, a 2-year-old boy mysteriously disappeared from his home in September last year. Authorities claimed to have “exhausted all technological means,” but to this day, almost 5 months later, no clues have been found.

According to reports from several mainland Chinese media outlets, on September 18, 2025, 2-year-old Luo Jincheng went missing from his family’s home in Xuyong County. According to relatives, the boy was born to Ms. Luo and her ex-fiancé, but she raised him alone after they separated. In March 2025, Ms. Luo went to work in Zhejiang and left her son with his grandparents in their hometown.

On the afternoon of September 18, the boy’s grandmother left him on the first floor playing with a mobile phone while she went to cut bamboo near their home. Before leaving, she had asked the boy’s grandfather to watch over him, but he didn’t hear her as he was on the second floor changing a lightbulb. When the grandmother returned, she found the child missing, with the phone left on the table. After a fruitless search, the police were notified.

During the police investigation, it was discovered that the data usage on the phone the child was playing with stopped around 2:15 pm that day. However, the surveillance cameras near the house did not capture any footage of the child before or after his disappearance, and no suspicious individuals were identified.

According to the boy’s grandfather’s recollection on February 11, 2026, it was a sunny day when the incident occurred, and the boy was wearing short sleeves and barefoot. He was alone on the first floor for only about 20 minutes. All nearby areas have been searched, but there are still no clues about the boy’s whereabouts.

The day after the boy went missing, local police classified it as a child abduction case. Local government officials stated that “all necessary technological means have been utilized,” but still no trace has been found.

Currently, the family is offering a reward of 100,000 yuan for any information related to the child. According to the missing person notice released by the family, the boy has a birthmark on his right wrist, and he was last seen wearing a white short-sleeved shirt and black and white checkered pants.

Many netizens have raised doubts, questioning why such incidents still occur despite the widespread surveillance in modern times. Some expressed frustration over minor offenses being quickly captured on camera while the disappearance of a child remains unsolved for so long. Speculations about the involvement of an acquaintance in the case and the inadequacy of expert assistance and big data in solving missing person cases have also been brought up.

People have called for strict penalties to deter child abductions, with some suggesting immediate execution for those caught trafficking children to serve as a deterrent.
