McDonald’s offered a special treat for some customers on Tuesday, February 10th – McNuggets with caviar to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
Valentine’s Day in the Western world falls on February 14th.
The event began at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, Eastern Time, with McDonald’s giving away limited quantities of packages on the mcnuggetcaviar.com/countdown website. Due to the limited supply, the packages were quickly sold out.
Each package included everything needed for a “sophisticated and casual celebration,” such as a 1-ounce can of “McNugget Caviar,” crème fraîche, a Mother of Pearl caviar spoon, and a $25 gift card.
McDonald’s stated that the giveaway was aimed at attracting customers and driving consumption. While it may not immediately generate revenue, it can increase brand awareness and lay the foundation for viral marketing.
Last year, McDonald’s partnership with the movie “A Minecraft Movie” distributed by Warner Bros., a sister company of CNN, helped reverse the declining sales trend for two consecutive quarters.
McDonald’s CEO, Chris Kempczinski, told investors in 2024 that although McDonald’s started with hamburgers, the sales of chicken at their restaurants now rival beef sales.
According to McDonald’s, the introduction of caviar was in response to customer demand, as fans on social media have been praising the McNugget Caviar for years as both “elegant and down-to-earth.” Pop singer Rihanna was seen tasting caviar in a TikTok video in 2024.
McDonald’s admitted that “before this promotional event, the McNuggets and caviar were already a match.”
Quarterly financial reports for McDonald’s will be announced on Wednesday.
In the first nine months of 2025, global sales for McDonald’s grew by 1% (excluding exchange rate effects), with sales for US stores open at least a year growing by 2.4% in the third quarter.
