A logistics drone owned by SF Express crashes in Shenzhen urban area

A logistics delivery drone operated by a subsidiary of the Chinese logistics company SF Express Group recently crashed in Longhua District, Shenzhen, fortunately without causing any casualties.

According to netizens’ reports, the drone was engaged in a delivery mission in the vicinity of Guanhu Garden, Guanlan Street, Longhua District when it unexpectedly crashed to the ground, attracting a crowd of onlookers. From the photos taken at the scene, it is evident that the drone had automatically deployed a parachute and remained structurally intact.

From the images provided, it can be seen that the crashed drone belongs to Fengyi Logistics Drone. Upon checking the Fengyi drone official website, it was revealed that the drone in question is operated by Fengyi Logistics, a subsidiary of SF Express Group. According to information on the Fengyi website, the model is called “Ark 80”, with a wingspan of approximately 4.8 meters, a maximum take-off weight of 120 kilograms, equipped with a 144-liter modular cargo hold, capable of cruising at a maximum speed of about 90 kilometers per hour, and classified as a medium-sized logistics drone.

Local residents informed “Shenzhen News” that there have been ongoing drone delivery activities above Guanhu Garden, with relevant warning signs also placed within the park. Some residents believe that while drone delivery enhances efficiency, there is a need to strengthen management in terms of flight route planning and avoiding densely populated areas.

In recent years, various regions in China have been accelerating the development of low-altitude economy, with drone logistics emerging as one of the key application scenarios. Although this crash incident did not result in any casualties, concerns about operational safety in urban public spaces have once again drawn public attention.

At the time of writing, the involved company has not yet disclosed the cause of the incident or the follow-up arrangements.
