On Wednesday, February 4th, President Trump announced his endorsement of conservative local prosecutor Clay Fuller to run in the special congressional election for Georgia’s 14th district. This election aims to fill the vacancy left by former congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene.
Trump gave Fuller his full and thorough endorsement on the social platform Truth Social, praising him as an “America First Patriot” and a strong supporter of the “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) movement.
Clay Fuller, a local prosecutor and Air National Guard officer, is highly regarded by Trump for his dedication to national defense, support for brave military personnel and veterans, and his wisdom and courage in seeking peace through strength.
“Clay Fuller has my full and complete endorsement to be the next congressman of Georgia’s 14th congressional district—he will not let you down!” Trump wrote.
Upon receiving the endorsement, Fuller expressed his profound honor, stating, “I will not disappoint you or the 14th district of Georgia.”
Having lost to Greene in the 2020 Republican primary, Fuller is positioning himself as an “America First Prosecutor” with policy positions closely aligned with Trump’s domestic agenda, including tax cuts, decreased regulation, enhanced border security, curbing illegal immigration, and upholding the Second Amendment rights enshrined in the U.S. Constitution.
Former congresswoman Greene had significant policy differences with Trump on issues such as foreign aid and the Gaza conflict, leading to Trump rescinding his endorsement. Greene officially resigned from Congress on January 5th.
The special election is scheduled for March 10th and will be conducted under a “Jungle Election” system, where candidates from all parties appear on a single ballot. If no candidate receives over 50% of the vote, the top two candidates will advance to a runoff on April 7th.
Currently, Fuller faces intense competition within the Republican Party, with as many as 16 Republican candidates expected to run. Apart from Fuller, Colton Moore, a Trump-supporting conservative Republican and former Georgia state senator, is also considered a strong front-runner.
On the Democratic side, retired Lieutenant Colonel Shawn Harris, who ran in 2024 and received 35.6% of the vote compared to Greene’s 64.4%, is set to be one of the most formidable challengers.
Despite fierce competition, the Republican Party is working tirelessly to secure this seat to maintain its narrow majority in the House of Representatives. However, the nonpartisan Cook Political Report still categorizes the district as a “solidly Republican” constituency.
