On February 2nd, in Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province, a bridge under construction collapsed, resulting in 2 deaths and 3 people missing.
A video shared by netizens showed the collapse of a large bridge under construction, with an engineering vehicle overturned on the broken bridge, and a large amount of construction materials scattered on the water surface. In the video, a man shouted, “It’s serious, quickly save people, go down and rescue them,” and “The Yuegang Bridge is broken.”
It is reported that the Xiangshui Yuegang Bridge is one of the key bridges in the Jiangsu Province Lianshen Line waterway improvement project. An article on the Xiangshui County government website in 2025 indicated that the county’s transportation bureau leaders had introduced that the bridge was originally planned to be completed and opened to traffic in September 2026.
The accident sparked discussions among netizens, with many questioning whether the incident was caused by “cutting corners,” “rushing construction schedules,” or “corruption.”
Due to the accident, the waterway from the Dingzigang River Estuary to the Xiangshui Ship Lock on the Lianshen Line is currently temporarily closed.
