Suspected Biological Laboratory in Nevada Leads to Chinese Suspect in California

On January 31st, the law enforcement department in Nevada conducted a raid at a residence in Las Vegas and discovered a suspected “biological lab” which contained small bottles of unknown liquids. The investigation revealed that this location is closely linked to an illegal laboratory case involving HIV, malaria, and a Chinese suspect that was previously busted in California.

In the early hours of last Saturday around 6 a.m., the Metro SWAT team and the FBI entered a residence on Sugar Springs Drive with a search warrant. Authorities found what they described as a “suspected biological lab” inside the house, including a large number of small bottles containing unknown liquids stored in the refrigerator.

Clark County Sheriff Kevin McMahill confirmed during a press conference last Saturday that one person was detained in the operation. While he emphasized that this was an isolated incident and posed no direct threat to the public, the identity of the company behind the property raised significant concerns.

Property records of the residence pointed to a company named “David Destiny Discovery, LLC”, with the registered agent being Jia Bei Zhu, who is serving time in federal prison for the California case. This individual was involved in operating an illegal laboratory in Reedley, California, falsifying medical equipment labels, and making false statements to the federal government.

Court documents and investigation reports indicate that in October 2023, Zhu, then 62 years old, was apprehended. His company, “Prestige Biotech Inc.”, stored thousands of vials of pathogens including HIV, malaria, and dengue fever in a warehouse in California and unlawfully bred 1,000 genetically modified experimental mice.

A report from the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party of the US House of Representatives revealed that Zhu had financial connections with entities related to the Chinese Communist Party. He was also implicated in massive intellectual property theft, circumventing legal supervision, and manufacturing counterfeit medical equipment.

Apart from the raided residence, investigators have identified other business addresses of the group in the Spring Valley area of Las Vegas. The FBI has sent samples seized at the scene to headquarters for analysis to determine if these unknown liquids contain dangerous pathogens similar to those found in the California laboratory.
