Trump: Will not share military plans with Gulf allies on Iran

The US President Trump (Donald Trump) is deploying a strong military presence near Iran and weighing various options for strikes against Iran. Trump stated on Saturday (January 31st) that even if the US is in talks with Iran, he cannot share his military plans with Gulf allies.

During an interview with Fox News on Saturday, Trump responded to reports that Gulf allies were unaware of potential US military plans. “We can’t tell them the plans. If I tell them, the situation is almost as bad as when I tell you—it could actually be worse,” the President said. “However, the plan is that Iran is talking to us, and we’ll see if we can do something, otherwise we’ll see what happens… We have a huge fleet heading there, larger than our fleet in Venezuela.”

A senior official from a Gulf nation told Fox News that Saudi Arabia will not allow the US to use its airspace or bases for attacks. A senior government official from a member country of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) also told Fox News that despite Saudi Arabia holding a high-level meeting in Washington recently to clarify the issue, the Trump administration did not share with Gulf allies the US goals or plans regarding Iran.

Gulf allies have expressed that Iran often seeks negotiations, but they still doubt whether negotiations can lead to an agreement. In response to this assessment, Trump said, “That’s right, but they are negotiating, so we’ll wait and see.”

With the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group recently arriving in the US Central Command (CENTCOM) area, US military concentration in the Middle East has further strengthened. More destroyers are closing in on Iran, and the US government has deployed fighter jets, air defense systems, and drones to the region, all expanding Trump’s offensive and defensive options in the region.

As Trump’s military pressure intensifies, senior Iranian security official Ali Larijani stated on Saturday (January 31st) that framework work for negotiations with the US is making progress. Larijani posted on the social media platform X, “Contrary to the atmosphere created by the artificially fabricated media warfare, the construction of a negotiation framework is underway.” However, he did not disclose further details.

President Trump has repeatedly mentioned the US military’s powerful fleet and warned Iran to return to negotiations quickly, reach a nuclear agreement, or face serious consequences.

According to The Wall Street Journal, US government officials have stated that they are discussing the primary objectives of US military actions, whether it is to target Iran’s nuclear program, destroy its ballistic missile arsenal, overthrow the Iranian government, or a combination of all three.
