3 Texas Police Officers Injured in Pursuit of Suspect in Murder Case

Three police officers from the Corpus Christi Police Department in Texas were injured on January 23 afternoon while pursuing a murder suspect. Two officers were shot by the suspect, while the third officer was grazed by a bullet. Among them, a female officer who was shot is in serious condition.

The Corpus Christi Police Department posted related information on its Facebook account on the evening of January 23. Around 2:47 pm on January 23 (Friday), the department received a report and dispatched officers to the 4900 block of Ayers Street to handle a shooting incident. Upon arrival, officers found a man with multiple gunshot wounds. The Corpus Christi Fire Department transported the man to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries.

At 3:33 pm, officers located the suspect’s vehicle in the 3100 block of Agnes Street. During a traffic stop, the suspect suddenly pulled out a gun and fired at the officers, who then returned fire. Two officers were shot, one was grazed by a bullet. The two injured officers were taken to the hospital, with one in serious condition.

Police Chief Mike Markle provided details of the incident to local media and mentioned that the critically injured officer is a female. He also noted that the department has unfortunately lost several officers in the past few years.

Markle expressed his prayers for the injured officers and added that the officers worked diligently to quickly locate the murder suspect. He stated, “Unfortunately, the situation ended in this way, but we are working hard to ensure the safety of the public.”

According to information released by the police, the murder suspect is a 38-year-old male. Despite sustaining multiple gunshot wounds, his condition stabilized after receiving medical attention and he is under police custody. Markle believes that the danger has been eliminated in this murder case.

Following current procedures and policies of the department, all Corpus Christi Police Department officers involved in this case will be temporarily placed on administrative leave with pay to allow them to relax and recover.
