The Deputy Representative of the Republic of China in India, Xie Baihui, passed away suddenly at the age of 52. Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung traveled to Xie Baihui’s hometown in Tainan, Taiwan, on the 12th to present three medals to his father and posted on Facebook, stating that Xie Baihui faced endless pressure from the Chinese Communist Party on the frontline of the diplomatic battlefield, gradually opening up diplomatic space for Taiwan. He will always be remembered for his professionalism, warmth, bravery, and creativity.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China, Lin Chia-lung, shared on Facebook “We will always remember him – Ambassador Xie Baihui in India,” emphasizing that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is like a big family where everyone is emotionally close and like family. However, at the end of last year, “our family lost an important member – our Ambassador Xie Baihui in India. This sense of loss not only belongs to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs but also touches many people in the country with surprise and sorrow.”
Lin Chia-lung mentioned that when talking about the past, Xie’s father showed him a Vietnamese newspaper that had been kept for many years. In the report, Ambassador Xie was interviewed as a “Taiwanese diplomat,” but he faced pressure from the Chinese Communist Party as a result, with even unsold newspapers being demanded to be recalled. Looking at that newspaper, Xie’s father had a mix of pride and deep sorrow on his face. He said that he had worried that his son’s high-profile interviews might attract even more intense pressure, potentially endangering his safety. However, whether in Vietnam or India, Ambassador Xie never showed fear. Time and time again, he accepted media interviews, bravely voiced Taiwan’s stance, defended the dignity and position of the country, earning great admiration.
