Magnitude 5.1 Earthquake Hits Eastern Taiwan, Felt in Multiple Counties

Taiwan’s Central Weather Bureau announced that a magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck the Hualien area at around 7:32 PM today on December 18, 2025. The epicenter was located 18.3 kilometers northeast of the Hualien County Government (in the eastern waters of Taiwan), with a depth of 31.6 kilometers.

The seismic intensity reached level 4 in Hualien County.

At level 3 were Hualien City and Yilan County.

Areas with a seismic intensity of level 2 included Nantou County, Taoyuan City, Hsinchu County, New Taipei City, and Changhua County.

Lastly, locations with a seismic intensity of level 1 were Taichung City, Taitung County, Miaoli County, Taipei City, Keelung City, Yunlin County, Chiayi County, Chiayi City, and Tainan City.
