Former Vice Chairman of Jiangsu Provincial CPPCC Wang Hao Sentenced to 13 Years in Prison

On January 7, 2026, Wang Hao, former party member and vice chairman of the Jiangsu Provincial Political Consultative Conference, was sentenced for bribery. He was sentenced to 13 years in prison for bribery and fined 4 million RMB. Wang Hao was investigated in May 2024.

The Huangshi Intermediate People’s Court in Hubei Province publicly announced the first-instance judgment on the bribery case of Wang Hao, former party member and vice chairman of the Jiangsu Provincial Political Consultative Conference on January 7. Wang Hao was sentenced to 13 years in prison and fined 4 million RMB.

The court stated that from 2008 to 2024, Wang Hao took advantage of his positions as a member of the Standing Committee of the Xuzhou Municipal Committee of Jiangsu Province, deputy secretary of the municipal government party group, deputy mayor, secretary of the Political Consultative Conference of Xuzhou City, chairman, deputy secretary of the Suqian Municipal Committee, acting mayor, mayor, secretary of the Suqian Municipal Committee, member of the party group, and vice chairman of the Jiangsu Provincial Political Consultative Conference, to provide assistance to units and individuals in project contracting, qualification declaration, and other matters, illegally accepting a total of more than 46.31 million RMB in property from the aforementioned units and individuals.

On May 20, 2024, Wang Hao was investigated while in office, becoming the 26th central government official exposed to fall from grace in 2024. On November 20 of the same year, Wang Hao was expelled from the Party and handed over to judicial authorities. He was arrested on December 3.

Public records show that Wang Hao was born in February 1965 in Dangshan, Anhui Province. He started working in July 1987 and has served in various positions in the Jiangsu officialdom, including as the mayor of Pizhou, deputy mayor of Xuzhou, secretary of the Suqian Municipal Party Committee, and more.

In 2007, Wang Hao became the secretary of the Peixian County Party Committee, and later held positions such as deputy mayor and executive vice mayor of Xuzhou, chairman of the municipal People’s Political Consultative Conference, among others.

In February 2018, Wang Hao became the deputy mayor and acting mayor of Suqian City, and a year later he officially became the mayor. Zhang Xuan, who was appointed as the deputy mayor and director of the Public Security Bureau of Suqian City at the same time as Wang Hao, was investigated in March 2021.

In December 2020, Wang Hao became the secretary of the Suqian Municipal Committee of Jiangsu Province, chairman of the Standing Committee of the Suqian Municipal People’s Congress in 2021, vice chairman of the Jiangsu Provincial Political Consultative Conference in January 2023, holding the position until his downfall.
