Media personality criticized Chengdu’s “being labeled as mentally ill” incident, taken away late at night.

Recently, the case of female pharmacist Ye Jian from Jintang County, Chengdu, who was “labeled as mentally ill,” was exposed. Chen Dazhou, a self-media person from Chongqing, published a commentary article and was taken away by the Jintang County Public Security Bureau in the early hours of December 11.

In recent times, an independent investigation conducted by mainland China news media revealed two cases of individuals being “labeled as mentally ill” in Sichuan Province. One case involved Xu Xinrui, a citizen of the Chenghua community in Chengdu, who was sent to a mental hospital for eight years after reporting officials for gambling. The other case was Ye Jian, a female pharmacist from Jintang County in Chengdu, who was “labeled as mentally ill” for six years after reporting economic issues related to land acquisition by local officials at her place of residence.

Ye Jian discovered that her household registration disappeared during a land acquisition process in her place of residence, which led her to start paying attention to the economic problems related to land acquisition reported by local farmers. She was forcibly admitted to the mental hospital in September 2019 and remained there for six years, during which she was subjected to forced medication with psychiatric drugs, beatings, restraints, and electric shocks.

After the exposure of the “labeled as mentally ill” cases, several self-media individuals joined in supporting the victims. Recently, Chen Dazhou, a self-media person from Chongqing who runs the public account “Yue-E Lu Shield,” wrote an article titled “The Unfinished Xu Xinrui Case and the Emergence of the Ye Jian Case,” discussing issues related to Ye Jian and Xu Xinrui’s cases and questioning the lack of “humanity” in the authorities.

Shortly after the publication of this article, in the early hours of December 11, the public security personnel from Jintang County in Chengdu rushed to Chongqing, located three hundred kilometers away, and took him away from his home.

Wu Huaijun, the investigator, stated online, “In order to cover up the inhumane truth of fascism, the Chengdu police and government officials constantly use various means to intimidate, monitor, and slander informed individuals and compassionate members of society. The bloody suppression began on December 11, 2025, with the arrests of Chongqing self-media person Chen Dazhou, Jintang County visitor Zhou Mingru, and Chengdu citizen Zhang.”

He questioned, “Can corrupt individuals cover up and suppress so many victims of being ‘labeled as mentally ill’ in Sichuan Province? The article by Chen Dazhou has stirred up the official media all over the country and caused panic in Chengdu over the Xu Xinrui case, leading to a crackdown on the Ye Jian case.”

After Chen Dazhou was taken away by the police, some netizens spontaneously formed a rescue network and initiated rescue operations.

Netizens kept calling the Chengdu Public Security Bureau hotline 110, repeatedly conveying the same message that “Jintang County Public Security Bureau may be illegally detaining citizen Chen Dazhou, who is currently under soft detention at Jinyang Shangcheng Hotel in Jintang County.” The responses from the 110 operators were, “Will have the inspector verify.”

Netizen “Shudao” questioned online, “Why are people taken away without any documentation late at night?” This is evidently illegal. Without legal documents, being away from the scene of the incident, not notifying the local public security, operating beyond the statutory case handling area, and exceeding the statutory time limit have already raised suspicions of “illegal detention” under Article 238 of the Criminal Law, which could lead to criminal liability for the involved police officers.

Shandong lawyer Yu Kai also sent a text message to Chen Dazhou, pointing out that the actions of the Jintang police were illegal.

According to the information obtained by Wu Huaijun, aside from Chen Dazhou, Zhao Zhentong from Tongziyuan Village in Zhaoping Town, Jintang County, and a person surnamed Zhang who provided a signed statement confirming Ye Jian was not mentally ill, were also detained. Currently, Chen Dazhou has returned home, but there is still no information on the other two detained individuals.
