On December 1, 2025, the Taiwan Freedom Communication Association held a seminar at National Taiwan University to discuss how Taiwan should properly address the intense changes in the international situation. Scholars and experts were invited to analyze the situation.
The chairman of the Taiwan Freedom Communication Association and a research fellow at the Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research, Wu Hui-lin, pointed out the significant impact of Trump 2.0’s strong leadership, which has revitalized the image of the United States as the “world’s policeman”. Under Trump’s direction, several international peace talks have been successfully facilitated within a year, and the world seems to be heading towards peace. Wu also highlighted the global trend towards “fair trade” due to Trump’s effective tariff policies, leading to a clearer distancing from the influence of the Chinese Communist Party.
Professor Ming Ju-cheng from the Department of Political Science at National Taiwan University explained the international community’s negative view towards the Chinese Communist Party, citing reasons such as human rights violations, aggressive military expansion, and provocative actions in regions like the South China Sea and Hong Kong. He emphasized that the current global situation involves challenges to international order and values from China and Russia.
With the growing confrontation between democracy and authoritarianism, Taiwan has been seen as the vanguard against communism and a democratic ally of mainstream countries. It is urged that pro-Communist individuals be vigilant against the Chinese Communist Party’s infiltration and propaganda efforts. Taiwan’s decreasing economic reliance on China and increasing trade dependence on the United States were also noted as significant shifts.
Analyzing the changing global landscape, experts at the seminar provided several strategies for Taiwan’s diplomatic, political, economic, and societal fronts to navigate the challenges and capitalize on opportunities. These included deepening security cooperation with the US and Japan, strengthening national consensus, enhancing supply chain security, expanding partnerships in emerging industries, supporting civil society engagement, and promoting Taiwan-US investment relations.
As the world sees a surge in investment in the US and a repositioning of global economic dynamics, Taiwan is advised to align its economic strategies with the evolving international landscape. Furthermore, the speakers suggested that Taiwan should focus on enhancing cooperation with democratic allies, countering disinformation campaigns, and showcasing its democratic resilience on the global stage.
The recommendations from the seminar underscore the importance of Taiwan’s proactive stance in strengthening its position amidst the shifting international dynamics. By bolstering alliances, safeguarding national interests, and diversifying economic partnerships, Taiwan can better navigate the complexities of the global scene and secure its long-term peace and prosperity from external threats.
